Bing is definitely doing pretty good in the US market with 11.5% market share, however, guess who is sending Bing traffic? Well, there are no surprises in the top 3 traffic sources for Bing, which are MSN, Facebook and Windows Live Mail.

Google is the 4th largest source for traffic that Bing gets to their site. Because, Microsoft purchases ads on Google for Bing using Google Adwords for popular terms like "Search Engines", and they also show up high in the search results for several terms. This may be one of the main reasons of the traffic Bing gets.

Based on the recent traffic reports from comScore, Bing got around 1.6 billion users in Feb 2010, which implies that Google sent approximately 66.7 million users their way.  Though in India Bing still has to make inroads, but in other countries Bing is gaining traction and with Google sending more traffic to Bing, will this affect Google's dominance as search engine?

The way Microsoft is trying to promote Bing & the frequency at which it is getting users from Google & other sites it seems that in near future Bing will overtake Google as the largest search engine on earth. One thing that Bing does well is give you categories and suggestions related to your searches on the left-hand side of your search results screen.

Bing is also very good at natural language searches. It’s good at these because technology from Powerset, leveraging the clustered query intelligence found in the Hadoop software framework, is built into Bing.

Thus, I think Bing will overtake Google as search engine giant.

Google has always been a preferable search engine world wide. Google is very easy & simple to understand. Though Google is allowing traffic to Bing I don't think it will affect much to usage of Google. The most strongest power Google has is the brand they have created as a search engine. Brand Google is a very strong brand and highly effective also.

Today many e-mail sites are linked up with google and the number is still counting. Google is also linked with many social networking sites & providing its services. Google also has its own e-mail services taht is better than many other e-mail services.

I agree that technically Google has to improve in order to fight Bing & they are doing it. Thus, I don't think that Google will be overrun by Bing in the long run.

The surprise though is Google at 4th with around 4.1% traffic share, which is almost the same as Facebook and Windows Live Mail, but this might definitely mean that Microsoft has loosened its pockets a lot, and are advertising Bing aggressively on one of the biggest search engines on planet Earth. Yahoo with whom Microsoft signed a deal for search is there at 5th with around 2% of the traffic.

As of now Google's  search technology is years ahead of Bing's. Even the fact that Microsoft had to depend on an open-source technology contributed vastly by Google community, Hadoop, is testament to its lack of resources to make it as a search biggie using its proprietary model. Moreover, Microsoft faces a major challenge to build up sponsored link base like Google's. Till then it can continue paying Google to list Bing results at the top in Google results!

I totally agree to your point. It is the real simplicity of the Google search engine that has brought in lots of users to use it as their default search engine. The point to be noted is that Google is not sleeping. It is innovating all the time to improve its services. So its bit more difficult for Microsoft to outsmart Google in the long run.

No other search engine can beet GOOGLE at least for next one or two years. The algorithms they are using either for search results or for sponsored links are amazing. Google modifying it search engine algorithms very frequently, based on the different criteria.

However, Bing can overcome Google, provided they should be there in the market quite for some time. "If any search engine survives for five years and more, they can overcome the Google."

yes, definitely google will be the better one.

because of it's compatibility and uniqueness.

and it can't be overtaken  by bing

in the foriegn countries like us russia like those bing is now growing up

but it can't override google.

google will come up early than any other like bing.

yes there are some technical indifferences wit google w.r.t. bing. but Google is Google. They are the pioneer and they are the master. google has mastered the art and now they are implementing  the innovations only. way to go for bing. Google has already penetrate the market as a product company now. Android, nexas Onw, Google's twin port, App marketplace and lot many more.... just an endless list. seeing the diversification of their own line of business, it seems that these guys sitting at Google are just watching bing. it's always good to see a baby playing, running and doing lot of funny stuff. isn't it? way to go baby bing. but don't worry big daddy is watching you.

What I like out of this is the marketing concept of Microsoft. Using Google to 'google' it. Cool..!! I must say that. And why not, to be in the top position in the Google network ( search + content) with the most popular keywords, Microsoft must paying Google in billions.

I think Google is way ahead in the game, specially bcoz of its searching technique. It fetches you the result, that u intend to search for.

For instance, type "too step" in both the search engines..and its only google that takes you to this site. Also, Google has got few techniques, which makes your search more easier.

One more advantage for google is, the various products that it offers for Social Network is very much popular among todays youth.

It is a big ask for any search engine to even fathom dislodging google let alone do it in near or near distant future, for the only reason google has become a staple for us all. Yes bing has passed expectations but in no way bing has got a single distinct feature that strikes you, makes your eyes pop. Just variations & a bit of feature tweak.

Local searches and language support are the areas where a lot of scope for competition is there as they are irrelevant as of now, but down the line the one who caters to this req. barring any jaw dropping search capability, google will be preffered.
