Google believes in the power of the web and not only this it even helps and fuels it's evolution .The ambitious project by Google lays a benchmark of 1gbps speeds and right now we can't even think of using that much pf bandwidth .Unimaginable things and applications can evolve from this .The best part is yet again the network they promise will have the concept of OPEN in it . One thing is for sure , there is no going back from the connected experience. Google-tel is on its way :)

Rahul well said Google being one of the best company will surely be able to meet the users needs in a better way than others. I think they are the first to come with the fastest broadband connection. Hope it reaches India soon.....

Would probably vouch for you on this Google broadband issue Inani...Google is still looked upon, preffered and utilised as one helluva search engine going around town and not really anything else for the moment...Even if we are made to believe that GOOGLE have done their homework, dont really think they would measure upto stiff competition actually...

Its always good to be innovative and diversified, what's wrong in it? They are very strong in their core business but sooner or later they will be challenged So it's prudent to diversify the product line. We can take example of ITC, They have expanded in so many fields like Branded cloths(John Player,Miss Player and wills), Flour(Ashirvad). biscuits, snack etc beside their starting product Wills Cigarettes and they are either no. 1 or 2 in each product, and we all have seen how fruitful these aggressive expansions were for Anil Ambani making his empire to 51,000 crore from 13,000. Google is giant in compare of these companies. They have more resources and dominance in their core business to back their expansion. Though maintaining quality is an issue but i think they will handle these issues.

I do not see any issue why Google should not enter into broadband business. It is a free world. Google is entering into a very competitive market and if it fails to match customer expectation it will be kicked out. Everyone has right to expand its customer base and revenue. Let them do so.

This is probably a decision Google could take earlier. You can deal in fish even without having a pond but if you have one pond, you can really win the market. By grasping the internet media and its distribution, Google can laterally control many aspects to work in its favor. First, as internet becomes the only media in future, it can leverage from its infrastructure through advertisements, revenue sharing and lease options. Secondly, they can also play with the media by altering its various attributes. For example, by increasing the speed of internet, it may make sites like Youtube more popular and accessible. Then, it will have the entire technology to work for it. They can add some more subscribers of its products by offering some special incentives through its gamut of solutions. It's the best decision Google could have taken considering the type of business it is in. I wish the services also cover India within a short span of time. Please bear in mind, earlier the progress of a nation was ascertained by assessing its GDP. Although GDP remains unchallenged, in future, the progress of a nation would depend upon the density of netizens.

What is so wrong with Google going into broadband and a host of other things. If they have the resources to provide a better service at a competitive price, then Go google. Trying to stop Google or even being disapproving of their forays into new areas is like trying to tell Ambanis that after Telecomm and Petrochemicals and a host of other things that they own, they cannot venture into the territory of say automobiles as it is Tatas domain. i mean who are we kidding. Its a competitive world, acquire or be acquired. I remember till recently Google was scoffed at for being unidimensional by some people and now when they are diversifying from their core strength, again people have problem with that. If someone is a .Net developer and goes on to master java and VB and few other tools, along with having great people skills, would someone call the person greedy for not giving the competition a fair chance. No we would call the person dynamic and a well rounded individual. So, if google has the power to be the best in 100 different areas, then more power to it. It will make others strive harder to compete. It is the Roger Federer effect, raise your game or I will win them all.

Google Inc. has been sagaciously planning and implementing its vision to expand in multiple technology domains based on futuristic needs and aspirations of technology users, and rightly so. It makes a great business sense to consolidate on Google brand. Search using Internet has become synonymous with Google, making it undisputable leader. As a business, main revenue generated by Google comes through Advertisement over Internet, whose users are growing with magnanimous rate. Google is judiciously trying to expand and extend its technology frontiers that are inter-related, enabling information access, collaboration and unified communication (fixed as well as mobile). Even if Google does not emerge leader in each of the technology it floats, it would gain through Brand consolidation in field of technology. It is surely a great strategic endeavor. After all, Google is not diversifying into running the business of poultry farms.

I love the ambitious nature of Google........if they will stick to their core strength that is not healthy for its existence. They are anticipating future challenges and after all their expansion is in the same domain that is IT. Google shows the Spirit........if the Giants will not evolve new products , ideas that can change the world will not remain Giant. They need new killing to stay number one.

I am sure Google has the best brain and they can do well in any field they enter. So from the perspective whether they can do well or not I think they have the right competency to move to the Broadband buissiness and surely they will do well.
But thinking of other concerns I think that google should not enter in this area.
Just imagine whenever we need to have any review what we do ..we just type in google search engine and look for the first 5-10 pages and make our review's. Being a best search engine and having a complete monopoly in the search engine it can make a heavy loss for all the telecom operators/vendors and it might be possible from that it can get the complete monopoly in BB
It looks bad to say that we want to stop somebody who is the best but from my perspective as an Telecom employee I also don't like to see a monopoly of google in BB/Telecom business

Have Google actually withdrawn from China ? May anybody report back just from Bezing what eventually they did there ? If they have quited, the fiber optics cables that were laid in China may be brought back to USA to arrange a 'high speed' broadband like this. All the best for Google ( in USA ) .. !! Or .. we may make TooStep platform a "google platform" to show-case all they are doing in USA. Here in India, we are, perhaps satisfied with whatever speed we have got for the time being. We know only a fraction of our population is connected by internet may be 'slowBAND or broadBAND.

Google is entering in everything and succeeding in nothing. It is a shame to see google failing at the current rate as they have served us tremendously. Basically they are expanding everywhere without any proper planning. Also their failures have something to do with their success as well. They build their business model with the same proven principles. However what is true in one place may not be true in another. For example, they only started a hotline for thei smartphone after one month. Earlier it was email based customer service! An email (or online forum) based customer service is acceptable is free software or search business but not in cellphone business. Another problem is Google is trying to dominate and do things their way rather than the existing ways. Innovation is fine but disrupting a successful model is not always wise. They should adhere to the old saying - "if it works, don't fix it"

I would like to agree with what Inani has come up with here where Google are trying to enter into every where which is not a good thing, i believe innovation is important but it is not like we are forcing it to happen, it should be a natural progression and it needs time, and at the rate of Google which is too fast according to me, and there will be a problem of infrastructure lacking for what google is trying to come up with. Take example like the recently launched Google nexus one phone, it couldn't even handle customer service properly, where people had to email their problems and it didn't find any response even after 3-4 days, so this is what I am talking about, they are going too fast where there is no infrastructure in place, they are forcing things to happen with this broadband plan of 1 gigabit/second, and some say that it is still a rumor and it is just forcing the US federal to think about expanding the current bandwidth in the country such that Google can provide its more and more service the way they want. Its totally wrong from Google to do such thing and it should not force things to happen just because they want to increase their services.
