Google TV - Future Of Entertainment!!

Google has joined forces with Sony and chip maker Intel to develop the next generation of internet-enabled televisions that will allow viewers to access the whole Internet through their TV.

It will be easy for viewers to access the best video on-demand content from the web, as well as access photo-sharing sites, such as Picasa, and social-networking sites such as Twitter. The aim, is to make it as easy for viewers to access the web as it is to change the channel.

Google TV would use Chrome for the web rather than Android's stock browser. Like Android, Chrome and Chrome OS, at least the core would be open-sourced and would encourage both users and those in the TV business to customize the OS. It would have a new interface and appears to support Flash, which would let it play Hulu and YouTube without separate native apps.

Because of the open platform, Sony wouldn't have an exclusive. The goal is to encourage apps and search in the living room much as Android has played a part in smartphones.

So, I think the new technology will completely revolutionize the entertainment at home level.

The new technology is still under process & currently it has not been tested to its full capacity. Moreover it not known what will be reaction of the market & what market segment will they target. Pricing is also another issue which has to be sorted out. There are many major players who might pose a serious challenge to the new innovation.

By seeing the level of competition & market condition I don't think that the new innovation will click in market as of now.

Another quick point , i remember the merger of ON2 technologies with Google last year and perhaps this is what Google had in mind at that time .What makes google so different is that it is so very focused on its goals and gets crazy for achieving  it .

Consider this ,ON2 's VP7 video codec is considered t be at par or even beyond the quality of H264 and the good thing is that this is all open source .Its potential customers include SUN microsystems /Oracle  , infenion ,Adobe,Nokia etc.... as Google is now in the feild we can expect some cool web app /web based video experience free with or without ads :)

This is awesome technology, we don't need to have laptop to connect internet, but question is that, it will allow us to access any site on the TV or will allow only selected(like entertainment based sites only).

Google is widely used all around the world and there is no limit of no. of users to be added every a day to use the google. So, as user perspective if other more features are available as the TV ,which would be good for the user to use it like 2 in 1 way.

Set-top boxes are badly screwed today and are not being utilized fully .Lot of potential is hidden in them and Google well the word is enough , is all set to make the change here .After the browser, mobile and now google tv , imagine watching television channles through youtube and seeing ads that you only would prefer , again the business model and all is not well placed today but can pick up exponentially with magnitudes none of us have even imagned before .

on the technical side Prathana ji I am skeptical about the choice of android or chrome here .Well there are differences on the firmware side but similarities on the app side and even vice versa  , its confusing to us to think on the compatibility but if it happens ,all devices will be connected to the could with Google and .....Google Tv  is just the beginning .
