Nearly Half of facebook users there are just for games that are there in that platform, the social gaming phenomenon is catching up like anything, and even people are addicted to these games and comeback to facebook just to play them. And I think the 500 million mark happened just because of that, as they knew that this is what it will take them (Facebook) forward in coming days, not only children even adults are playing these games and are enjoying. Every now and then you can see facebook coming up with new social games, just to make sure the users interest remains intact in future also, and by the way it is going it will surely catch up with the  Billion mark very soon than they thought it would. So, Is games is what defines social networking sites in future?

I think yes social gaming is catching up and people are playing more games for the matter of fact, how many people in your connection in facebook have you seen playing these games, the numbers will be increasing gradually right, So games like Farmville, Cafe world where you can create something and share those things with your friends makes it all the more interesting and there is the points system which makes  you hooked on to them, Facebook in a way is attracting people in hordes both young and old thats why the numbers are increasing and thats why even Google wants to get into this space with social gaming where they are partnering with zynga. So, yes Social gaming will define social networking in Future...

even if the social networking sites are sometimes gives bad experience to the people but if we use the security settings proper manner then these sites are good. the people who are victims is just because they dont know how to tackle it.... but for me it is the best way to stay connected with friends.

It's Good that one can get connected to different people through these "social networking" sites, but it is very difficult to maintain it. because from my experience what i got know that these sites are totally unsecured sites. there are so many untrusted links will come. if u r clicking on those links then u might be the victim of doing bad with your friend.

Indian or for that any market is divided into four segments, when it comes to social networking and online gaming, viz. kids, teenagers, working years and retirement.

2 out of this 4 segments are, first thing - addicted to (video) games and second thing - they are competing with friends, so there is huge surge. And these 2 segments have their accounts in huge mom and dad banks, which fuel their zeal to outperform other kids on the block and be cool. Cool is the word here.

Gaming and social network is the business to get in now, if you have some idea, take it to some company or work on it, it will surely see the light and your bank account would be enlightened ;)

there is a huge number of users on FB for games but i doubt it to be half as after a days the interest is lost. However, there are a few good features such as ease of adding images, videos etc + availability on mobile as separate entity + good marketing and promotional activities that makes FB more popular

"Half", Inani, is a bit of aloose term. In my circle, I would say that about 20% may be interested in games. But then we are of amuch older generation.
