Harley Davidson is a roadster. There have been growing instances wherein many biking groups have emerged across cities who are passionate about riding &their bikes. But poor roads have been a spoil sport. Royal Enfiled is a classic example who has tried to replicate Harley Davidson's model in India. THe bikers meet once every year & go on a long trip. Though the pricing may be quite high ( due to 110 % duties ) .. but still there are people who would go ahead for the sheer luxury & brand.

Harley davidson is a bike for the elite few.So before launching harley has made the initial surveys and they have also determined the potential of the Indian market. So they have any idea of the upcoming sales figure.

They expect it to be successful at that level only.In the future when the customs duty comes down and the price becomes more affordable it would effect  more sales.

So i beleive its just the start of a success story for the elite few only in India.

Harley's are a real biker's bike and if there are any hardcore biker's in India, sure they would spent something like the indicated to get one. However, for the regular crowd, they can feast their eyes on the models and conntinue dreaming!

I agree with Mr.Kailash. Harley Davidson has been a dream bike of almost every youth of India. But majority of Indians won't be able to buy it because of its high cost. In this case, I don't think it will become a big success in India...

I have my doubts on it, this is a clear indication of the impact the recent economic showdown has had on the American economy. The US auto giants are now focusing on developing markets such as ours in order to reap the maximum possible benefits they can, to cover up on the lost ground and tap the potential of an emerging economy. Excise duty cuts will define the success of this bikes & then again majority of Indians will never be able to get the harley experience bcoz of the cost factor. It should bring down to 5 lacks at least....
