Harvard B-School, one of the top institutions, and world's 3rd largest B-schools, is planning its formal classes in India. This Classes will be conducting Executive MBA courses.

HBS, till now, was conducting its executive education or management development programmes (MDPs) in India since 2008, but always in five-star hotels, is planning to shift its 5 star hotel classes to formal classrooms and has asked Indian corporate chiefs Ratan Tata and Anand Mahindra to help in finding proper place to start its own centre in India for executive education programmes.

So users, do you think Harvard's classroom in India will grab the market of IIM and other B-schools?

I think yes. HBS's presence in India could pose a serious competition to the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in the executive education space. According to the 2010 Financial Times 'Global MBA rankings', HBS is ranked as the third best B-school in the world after Wharton School of Business (University of Pennsylvania) and London Business School. Hyderabad-based Indian School of Business, on the other hand, was ranked 12 and by coming in India, this 4th ranked college will surely grab the market of the 12th rank college

I don't think so. There's space for everyone in the country and executive education from various B-schools is welcome. It's not about demand. It's about quality. Harvard is not in the longer duration executive education programmes so competition for the IIMs is not so much. Also, the cost of the programmes by Harvard courses is too high with comparison to ISB and IIM's. So definitely Indian B-schools have an upper hand from this side.

yes HBS is a big name in educational sector, They will give a tough competition in term of rank in Indian business School. Also they are taking good strategy to take support of businessman like TATA. A good strategy to penetrate Indian market!!

Absolutely!!

More importantly, the reason why students migrate to US from India and spend our currency there will now have a reason to remain in India and conserve the currency as well!! US in fact has lost a lot of revenue and also an oportunity to grab the best Indian talent and retain them on their shores.

Reverse brain drain!! Welcome HBS to India :))

I think definitely they have an edge specially when you compare the demography of a particular batch; versatility/cosmo nature/experience/backgrounds & their overall long long past records & experience.

Harvard Business School belongs to a different league of Institutions and caters to different class of students.A class of HBS will have good mix of students from all over the  world. They have a minimum criteria of experience needed for the professionals to be eligible for the admission which is in most cases the maximum experience available in a class in Business colleges in India except for IBS.For IIMs there is no such criteria at all for regular courses. Our so called cream of India do a BTec from IITs and then finding it useless for all practical purposes start doing PGDM in IIMs to get an assistant job in a foreign firm whose salary in dollars corresponds to a very high sum in Indian rupees.HBS has a history of being involved in cutting edge management research. In fact the course itself is build upon the case studies of live problems faced by the current businesses. So the students of IIMs are not meant for HBS and vice versa. So there is no clash of interest here.As for IBS ,yes they are going to face a very tough competition as most of the Indian GMAT high score holders preferred it for economical reasons.I think entry of HBS is a good sign.It will cater to all the experienced professionals who otherwise had no option but to move to other countries for quality education. Moreover ,I believe ,you can  learn to become a better warrior in a battlefield than playing it on a chess board.I hope HBS in vicinity will help our Indian Institutions realize this simple fact.

Are you kidding? India has enough population that is ready to get a certificate from any C-Class foreign university. So Harvard is definitely going to get SO CALLED best of the best of India.

HBS is being pushed into India for reasons that could be quite similar to what the MNCs faced. I don't think HBS would affect the market for IIMs et al, There are so many good applicants that do not get selected in CAT. So there's no dearth of good quality aspirants. HBS may however be learning a few new lessons while being here just like the eager MNCs did.
