As one of my friend on platform has created something about, how BIM reduces risk in construction industry, I mean first we should be asking has it been used widely in construction first, I know for the fact that many big construction houses use this BIM (building information modelling) but even then with a whole lot of advantages it is not being used widely, I may be wrong here in saying it is not used widely in India, as many of us not know how BIM is being used in construction, so just to have the clear picture of How BIM is used in India, I would like to know from all my construction friends and others like, has BIM being widely accepted in construction in India? The answer lies in the question itself. Yes BIM has been widely ACCEPTED,but not implemented. There are many reasons for which it cant be implemented. 1. How many of the conotractors, developers can afford it(BIM does involve cost additions)?2.How many clients do keep a firm stand on the plans freezed already(changes have cost implications)? 3.What is the cost of construction and what is the profit ratio for contractors, developers, project management co.,architects and consultants....this has a major cost role?4.How economical is BIM to be used in small, medium sized project? If these questions can be answered and the answers show that use of BIM is economical and cost saving then it will be widely implemented. Our people citizens have developed such a mindset that we just can't think of paying a single penny extra for services which can be said as an extra cost....even if it is going to save cost in the run of the project. Builders and developers (small and middle sized) just neglect this because of extra cost...want to save more.Private clients are least bothered with the technology usage in their residences unless otherwise asked by the client.....they just pay the archhitect(60%) of total agreed fees and the contractor's (90%) of total agreed cost by the end of the project...saying project(residence) has gone beyond budget,or services are not upto the mark, or quality of construction is not upto the mark..and so many reasons. This will not improve unless and untill our citizens get literate and have sound knowledge of construction process and importance of BIM.

I don't think BIM is being widely used in India, apart from big developers others are still into the drawings and calculating was always a problem, with so much communication gaps from contractors, to schedulers and in the end the laborers, with all this the time consumed would be more and the cost would have also increased with it, so I don't see BIM being widely used in Indian construction arena.

Yes it is.As we all know an information model works effectively only suitable working conditions are available. So its success is again a subject of debate. But the time has come to accept it on macro and micro levels.

Yes,It has Widely accepted in Building Management System. However  respect on  implementation, it is still under process only. This may depends on  Clint and Contracto,Design Consultancy firm. How much they like and wish to introduce  advanced Technology in Building Management. I don't thing Design consultancy and Contractor want to finish the work with in the schedule Period and receive the money (This may be due to Management Pressuer). So These Kind of Tendency not able to innovate and Introdue  the BIM  widely in india.

BIM now take the next level in from 3D to 5D Virtual construction Suite which means Evaluate Design Alternatives,Identify Constructability Issues, Extract Cost & quantity,Analyse Construction Sequence & Project Schedule etc..

In india how many builder expect accuracy of Design work and cost & Quantity

In India we are not using BIM extensively as yet, rather I do not know of any organization using it. I think it is a long way to go for us to use BIM.

Actually many of us have no idea of BIM and its advantage. Once it is felt that it is essential to adopt, I think every body will like to follow. Once it is used wide spread, the cost may not be a problem as it helps in every aspect of complete life cycle of a project. As per our requirement, we have switched over from just item rate contract to BOT for the convenience. Therefore, for better performance, BIM should be used in future.

Agree with Mr. Saleel ,but i think that most of people in indian construction industry are not aware from BIM. If we see the western construction industries than their construction is costlier & hard to maintain so they need BIM much more, Since in india light construction are easy to maintain by indian traditional construction method but at the time of heavy construction where cost, quality ,quantity , time & schedualing of working, precision of work with prefab elements ,are the big metter ,BIM is still not sufficiently using at all stages.

It is well known fact that whatever advance technology or concept we achieve, but the Indians are a little stubborn to new forms of whatever sort on the very first click. They first look for others to jump in to the fray of experiments and after a little bit spark of certainity only will there be a rat race.

I totally disagree it’s not yet accepted apart from only few I can say only 5% of them are working on it. Till date what matter to them is cost n not the quality. How many of them built as per the drawing provided. What my experience is that they are more towards the cost then the quality. To accept the BMI concept they will have to think wide n positive.
