The achievements of the image-hungry camera wielders are seen as nothing short of heroic by the middle-classes. Complacent in the illusory security of their homes, television is their window to the world. Simulated pleasures have the added advantage of leaving one's conscience clear. Little do they realize that force, violence and deceit often back such intrusions into the lives of those who can lay little claim to privacy.

So, has common man become the slave of media stories & hypes??

Yes today the common man has become the salve of media stories & hypes. He has lost the ability to think & act. We are just like puppets who act the way the media shows it to us.

Nice topic you have started Ms. Ravali, It is not fully acceptable to your views. Of course, the visual medias have increasing impact on common man but not to the extent of become slave. They watch for the sake of entertainment, time passing, and also for relaxation.

Media is today’s Narad, listening to Narad was stupidity, it is so today too. Common man is a breed of homo sapiens who is not in his control, cannot identify the controller, neither do they know what to do, how to do, they are biological men and women, to keep the biology going they do some activity. They are salves to everything why only media?

Hey Ravali why don’t you do something about this!! Remember they have lot of native skills.

Ravali not exactly. Yes on today's fast life people tend to believe what is being shown on visual media and tend to believe the same.

This does not mean they have become slave to the visual media. Yes it is a form of entertainment and people glue to TV sets for their particular programme.

Media hypes are for TRPs. Common man has no other option but to consume it and develop the attitude of "Garbage in Garbage out"! This way sensitive issues will go un-noticed when action required!

The common man goes by the herd/mob mentality. He has, over time, given over his habits to question, discuss and then conclude.. However,it is the media of all types, which has to check all facts/stories before hyping them into"breaking news"in the interest of commerce &competition..

Yes definitely.... Best example is the impression of afghan ppl that the US has created..... If the media shows you cute children playing and then they switch to a bomb explosion followed by some afghan ppl what will you think.. The problem is everyon has a personal opinion on worldly matters and the politicians exploit it to the fullest .. after all newspapers are run by them!!

Ravali today the best medium of news and entertainment is TV so what is being shown the people tend to believe the same and act in accordance.

So in that way we have become the followers of TV, which makes us slave in a sense we believe in them and act in accordance whether positive or negative so we are slaves that way.

My dear Abhijit, Switch off button is not a new invention..invented many years ago by our ancestors.. switch off from alcohol, switch off from smoking, switch off from womanizing..it is just a button away.. We are not used to activate that button.. And when asked to switch off, curiosity becomes more and more... TV channels are collecting money from us..not to switch off, to show some restraint and show us decent stories.. Switching off is not a solution. Thanx

MEDIA MANOUVERES ... MANKIND ( we ) MOVES... !

YES it is a fact... The Media Vehicles ( T.V, Newspapers, Magazines etc. ) have so much grip & control over our Lives, that we are almost slaves of WHAT THEY FEED US.

MEDIA today... Has the Capacity to MAKE RIGHT, WHAT IS ACTUALLY WRONG... & we follow them like Pied Piper's Rats.

Actually it is a very dangerous situation, whereby the Capacity to 'Think' & 'Argue' of an individual is damaged or redundant. We just go with the flow... Our minds have been psyched to non existence, in fact we become FREE CARRIERS of whatever Media Feeds Us, to our Friends & Relatives, who may be unaware at that point of time.

common man has remained common bcoz of lack of common sense. No one forces any person to watch anything. We have been given the options for programs to watch and it is our priority make the choice. Don't feel sorry for the common man, because if he is being smart in making so called comments on national issues, terrorism, cricket and what the government should do and what not, i feel he should have that much sense in following what is smart or not...please stop pitying the so called common man..he himself has popularised such stupid media programs by following them on regular basis.

No the media contains news which may or may not be 100% correct. Media hyper the story to get attention as well as to get high TRP rating. It the duty of viewer to assess and judge the value of the story and act according to his/her judgment

hello mr murthy, My argument was about ignoring the bad part which media is focussing always

Media also knows that any Bad news spreads  fast and increases the TRPS,more over its not the bad news i am arguing it a tastelss news , - what would you think if a news flashes on your screen saying , " Ghost in the Village", "Black magic of tantrik", "Children are stamped by some person in village", "Adulteration of ghee, milk"

These news are flashed every now and then, and continues for 3-4 days long, but no one dares to cover the miseries of common man, every where its judiciary who direct governement to do some action

Is this the modern society we wanted to live in?

Media has become great tool in hand of politians to make comon man fool, the real issues are forgotten easily by people

today Common man is worried about his bread and butter nd he should not waste his time on Idiot box and paying electicity bill and cable charges

Well, I think, that depends on the deeds that we do in the society. There is a growing competition among media channels. No matter what the coverage is about, if it's interesting enough they will kill us.

I beg to differ Ms. Ravali...media at times, does hype things unnecessarily and there have been several instances where things and issues were blown out of proportion. However, I feel that a majority of the common man out there are well aware of these so called "breaking news" and other fancy terminologies and treat them as just another means adopted to by the media to grab their attention.

The competition amongst the various news channels is intense and they need to use such tactics to gain an edge over one another, but the audience is well aware and educated to differentiate and decide what to and what not to believe.

I partially agree with Ravali but if society would have lost their ability to think then i believe India would have risen with leaps and bounds in other words Ravali said people just tend to follow media blindly if they do then India would be free from corruption, poverty, crime etc and become world largest super power because media doesn't show only chaat masala and fake stories, i agree not all the time they perform their duties honestly but if people tend to follow then media also presents stories of patriotism, honesty , love, secularism but do we follow  simply "no'

Thank YOU Mr.Natteraja Arikrishnan for Referral.

Long back study was conducted by an International agency on the impact of Negative News Vs Positive News on newspaper circulation They came out with striking fact :People buy more newspaper when there is negative news in it.

However in todays world we can always cross check hypes and false  stories with the help of Internet and other sources. Our thoughts and actions are now more refined with additional inputs which leads us to make more meaningful decision in todays world

I appreciate your concerns on this subject, Ms.Ravali. But I will like to present a different view.

I follow Media stories very closely. But I extract the news value from them. I do not get carried away, with the hype raised, euphoria created. No question arises about my becoming slave to media hype.

If your fundamentals are clear, no media can biase your views. It entirely depends on individual, to what extent, he allows Media to hijack your thinking ability.

No. never a common man feels the media stories. Rather, media is used to transform the lives of  a common man. This may give a feeling that they are Slave to Stories. Media is exploiting their weakness & trying to achieve good thing. When achieved, it may look as if, they are Slaves. But , it is not. They learned a new thing.

You are right in a way that media is trying to sensationalize by all means just ofr their TRP...In fact I watches it as a time pass....Thanks for an interesting topic any how...
