I am a huge fan of leveraging web analytics to gain insights about your customers, campaigns and site usability. However, one of the challenges most online retailers face is how to gain actionable insights from the analytics tool without getting lost in the sea of data that is being collected by the tool.

There is no doubt that ecommerce is catching up, especially after IRCTC's sucess in online railway ticket booking. But there are lot more scope for growth. Penetration of internet and credit / debit card to the rural population is a very important factor which determines the overall % of the ecommerce sales in relation to the total poulation in the country. By and large, when people (consumers ? ?) are confident that they will be satisfied in terms of quality and delivery mechanisam, they will opt of internet purchase - as happened in IRCTC's case. Customer of utility services should be encourgaed to make payment thru web by service providers which will increase the % of ecommerce - 1 % off on total bill if opted to pay on ECS mode by some telecom service providers has not encouraged many - they should think of some other option. An effective return / replacement mechanism should be in place (much more stronger than the existing laws) or an indpendent ombudsman for e commerce ca also be looked into - but the authority should be given enough resources and power to settle any dispute within 2 weeks from receipt of complaint. Initially the complaints may be higher, but this will give a comfort level for the users to use web for purchase.

Yes, E-commerce is changing the habit of the Indian consumer, as more and more people are showing interest on buying online through television and Internet. There are various options for the consumer to pay for the product and get the products by free home delivery system. The introduction of video technology on e-Commerce portal allows consumers to see actual demonstration of various products which also helps in the decision-making.

How I would describe the whole orientation is somewhat like understated dear Deepali:
"The consumer should be given the choice, a fair and simple choice - but a choice he is confident about."
Right now - the Indian consumer is not having a fair incentive to initiate e-commerce. However I see a bright future to e-commerce in India if sufficient interest is shown by the companies to serve the customer through the internet.

I agree with Saurabh. We Indians don't easily trust the seller due to the changes of fraud. And this panic is no wrong in the sense as we can see in general hotel bookings also.
If you do a online booking for a hotel they give u any room inspite of telling them your pref about location and other stuff. Yes they will keep the cateogry same. In the end ur not happy.
Also, if you tell any seller that he did some mistake he won't even agree with you.
Why to shop online and get westernised. Go and shop, it will also keep u healthy and u will enjoy it.

Consumer are hesitant to pay online as security is still an issue. Besides this, a large section of the audience is not comfortable with the process of placing an order on the shopping websites. For e-Commerce to evolve in the consumer retail space, consumers at large have to be become aware of the benefits of the medium. Indian buyers like the ‘touch and feel’ concept before finalising on their buying decision.
