Today education has lost its importance completely. Everybody studies & learns by heart just to get good scores & pass the examination. From teachers to companies that give jobs all give importance to grades & scores..... Being an engineering student this is a fact to me & many others like me.

So, have examinations killed education??

In my opinion yes it has killed education. Education has no sense than just to pass with good grades. People get good grades but they apply not even 1% in their practical life......

Is this education?????

All exams that I gave helped a lot to apply my knowledge. Ideas are strengthen when we build a good skill of performing in exams. All industries now-a-days, choose freshers for their company by exams (aptitude test, domain test etc.). Performing well in higher competitive exams are basically like submission of thesis paper on different theories.

our life has become 2,4,6,10 marks..This examination oriented approach to education is a short-sighted shortcut that nullifies the whole point of education. I mean, shouldn’t we be learning about how to practically apply these principles and knowledge to the real world rather than spending all our time ritualistically preparing for examinations? And the reason why “true learning” and “preparing for exams” are not the same is that students can pass the course simply by memorizing the answers to past years’ question papers and/or to that of the list of “important questions” offered by the professors just before the examinations. And this type of “learning” and “understanding” goes away as soon as it comes. In the end, the student would have a degree in hand without really knowing much about their field. I’m not saying that this is how everyone gets their degree but it is a possible way of earning a degree and that means that it is a huge hole in the system. Also, out of personal encounters, I reckon that this is a hole that a great many students exploit without second thought. Also, this way of “learning” turns education into more or less an undesirable chore to the student. It rarely gets seen as an enjoyable, self-driven attempt to widening the horizons of one’s wisdom.

the fault is not in the examinations. Its purely in learning manner.Because most of the people concentrates on spoon feeding instead of practical learning. It seems to be needed to improve the education system. children need to learn things through practical knowledge instead of just going schools, attend classes and mugup the things.

Not jus exams, they way the concept of education is projected to kids.it what put in their young minds , instead of enjoying what they learn ,the whole point is driven into their heads ---you kid ,better get good marks or noone is goona talk to u ,if u dont get marks you wont get what you want !!!!! you wont have friends if you dont study , you cant play and what not !!! exams are to jus test oneself ,,,i see my younger school going cousins jus forgetting the concepts once they are done with exams !!!! y should remember class 6 lessons when u r promoted to class 7 is the question asked ,,,,,vola that question from school kids jus tells do these kids really know why they are educated. they proceed to college with the concept in mind ,,, forget first year when u r in second

In my opinion not the examinations killed the education but the examination fear killd the concept of education. How? Introduction of preparatory classes in higher secondary level studies for engineering, medical Dental etc. The parents fall pray to the attractive packages given by the commercial Institutions keeping in view their wards career prospects-competitive market conditions for job-dowry-financial status-prestiege etc without knowing and giving a thought to what the wards mind set is. The so called commercial institutions for marketing and business give lucarative offers to the parents soon after announcing the class Xth results. They get more students in their kitty to make more profits. Start drilling, grinding, grilling the students from the day one till they appear for the exams without giving any consideration to their over all personality development, restricting themselves to attaianing grading in the entrance exams to obtain a seat in engineering, medical/dental colleges. They are successful in their mission too. Who is at loss and sufferer ? The parent-due to financial burden and to acquire false prestiege that my son/daughter is studying Medicine/engineering -motive behind what ever it may be. The main sufferer is the ward-who didnt have say to his parents what is his mindset-blindly following their directions. The out come is developing lack of interest on the course/stream, disgruntment, and develops revenge mentality within himself. Out come is less/no attention towards studies, bunking classes, resorting to mall practices to satisfy the parents- result is back log of most of the subject during I, II, III yr of study. Not able clear the subjects with in academic year, frustration, diminishing returns towards studies-out come is becoming drop-out, attempting to suicide, absconding from college and home. This is what the fear of examinations is. It is not only killing the pattern of education but it is killing the human in the student. Even if few students get through by muggingup, using un fair means in the examinations, bribing the staff, faculty to get grading/marks- do you think they are successfull in their career? No. They are left outs because their performance in placements, interviews etc is below standard due to lack of all round development and exposure. Their acquired knowledge is bookish, theoritical and they are in capable of putting the theory into practice because of lack of insfractureal facilities in most of the institutions. They doesn't have orientation and exposure to Industrial training, problem solving capability. They acquire only how to wrte an answer to a particular question. This way the present day examination pattern and Educational Institutions are producing inferior, incapable lot of engineers and medicos  and asking them to face the competitive world- where again the grading, percentage of marks are taken into consideration rather than their intelligence, practical approach to a problem. This is high time to reconsile and do the needful to the student freternity

U r right, some institutions want to give more emphasis on the quality of education. But because of changing policies of government compitition in setting up of new educational institutions and cheap tricks of the some institutions to grab the students and their huge money, keeps the honest institutions in corner and honest teachers of the institutions become negatively motivated, for example now for any amphases in the job Phd made mandatory, so that PhD becoming a degree rather than a research skill, now PhD market is already set. the person who having money and power get the degree easily and go to higher position. These are the few reasons to degrade the quality of education in India.

Examinations are just a fear-factor created among the students by our society. Rather it should be taken in a positive manner and the approach should be different. The process should not be a mere absorbing and oozing out in papers, but it should be taken as one of the means to imbibe various things practically as well as theoretically. This would help students to shine out in the world among thousands of students out there. Examinations are just one of the criterias to filter out students, which should be taken in a healthy way rather than cribbing about it and blaming on the same. All the best to all the students and the future of our India!!!!

Examinations are litmus tests to test the knowledge of a student, though they can not fully reflect the level of knowledge. But, the marks given undue weightage because of the competition and for screening purposes. The problem lies with the students and educational institutions in their approach to examinations. Students never to go through the text books and reference books their reliance is on guides and other materials to score good marks.

Exams are a timetested method to involve the students in the studies.Otherwise there will be no target in front of the students to persue. How will you know whether a kid has learnt counting or alphebets unless you ask her to recite it in front of you or write down on a piece of paper? If it is not correct, you will make the child relearn or repeat it.This is the concept behind evaluation or fail or pass remarks.

Suresh exams are one important means to gauge and check how much knowledge you have acquired based on the learning inputs given. In the absence of exams do you honestly think students will attend classes or even bother to study? You may not realise this now but after you are through with yur education you may look back and agree that exams do have thier own place in the education system.

Dear Friend

HONOUR KILLING

the clippings which is shown here is not the only clipping, tehre are crores of such clippings all over the world.

The very first reply of the queestion " What is your religion", we all answer - HINDU / MUSLIM........

When we will answer " I AM HUMAN"?

For me there is no HONOUR KILLING.

Its purely  a MURDER.

In our constitution also, the punishment is on the basis of MURDER.

Lets have a 2 different case study:-

1. CASE -1

You are the elder son of your family as well as the decision maker.

Some how your sister/ brother / son/ daughter, young & beatiful, is charmed by some one who is not approprite for his / her ( appropriate- as per you), you have your family reputation also. you want him/her to have a better life & safe life. but since you have very clear idea that the person whom he /she is envolved is not a right person & there is no way he /she is listening you & still continued with him, & very soon you come to know that, the guy has got physical relations.

Result : (1). You will full of rage (2) you will have to decide to stop this relation immidiaqtely ( 3) you have to take care of law as well your family & your future too.

Actions : (1) you will take advantage of " DIVIDE & RULE" phylosophy. (2) You will kill the person in a very planned way - socially( stoning, group rape etc.)

Where is the HONOUR KILLING? This is JUST A KILLING for personal interest.

All of the above what we are doing is also very considerable thing:

WE ARE JUST TALKING / SHARING THOUGHTS ; whereas the issue need immidiate actions / remedies for uproot / stopping.

WE ARE STILL ASKING " CAN WE STOP....."? Are we really WILLING to do something for our people/ society???????

Have we really visited to such victims places??????

ACTUALLY WE ALL STANDS ONLY WHEN SOMETHING HAPPEN TO OUR FAMILY MEMBER, otherwise we just talk.

" ANKHON KA PAANI SIRF RONE KE LIYE NANHI HOTA.................                 ZINDAGI KA WAZOOD, SIRF JINE KE LIYE NANHI HOTA  ..........."

Dear Jyoti

Ican share few points concerned to the Topic.

1. Its not exemination system which is killing the education. you also agree that for any kind of education, the feedback is anlysed through either TESTS / Examinations. Even Interviews are also part of Examination. You also consider the talent competancies via interviews (Examinations).

2. If we talk about the grooming ( General / Professional), its not only the way student / candidate is educated, its absolutely the grades / marks he/she scored during examination results. That too, is preferred from reputed institutes.

It means that examination is not killing the education.

Here if i understand your worry area is " THE ESSENCE OF EDUCATION SYSTEM"

When the essence is not positive  - Its killing the Examination system

Yes , Now a days the instutes are called " BUSINESS SCHOOLS", means the place where one will be educated only if he is having a GOOD PAYING CAPACITY.

Even our teachers are also running after the highest paid institutes, not to those locations where the teachers are highly on demand. So for both kind of situations very where its a Firefight / Cut throat competition, which is making the entire education system like hell & as a result the examinations are like a " KILLING THE TALENTS".

Regards

Suresh agreed to your opinion but its not entirely true. Still there are institutions that give more emphasis on the quality of education. These institutions use examination as a tool to measure the potential of many students.

But since there are many corrupt institutions that have spoiled the name of the entire industry.
