"Ae watan ae watan hamko teri kasam teri rahon me jaan tak luta jayenge".

This was the song which I and many others like me used to hear the whole day in our childhood which used to invoke patriotism in us. This is the song from the movie "Bhagat Singh". Yes, the 23 year old hero who died in the age when most of us are in colleges. Today, 23rd March, also known as Martyrs day is the day when this great hero sacrificed his life so that we can breathe the free air of India. He was the man, who left everything, his home, his family and loved ones just for the sake of Independence of our nation.

http://parisar.files.wordpress.com/2006/08/bhagat_singh.gif

He died in just 23 years and what did he get in return? Along with the britishers, Mahatma Gandhi called him a terrorist. His name is limited till only our history books with other martyrs and his life history, in the mind of a handful of people. The land for which he gave his life has been a hub of corrupt and anti-social elements who never let live any of its citizen in peace..

So users, has history not done justice to Bhagat Singh?

I hate to be on this side of the fence Sulagna!!

Practicality tells me that I have to use the deeds of a hero like Shahid Bhagat Singh to draw inspiration from his strength and resilience and a single focussed aim... INDEPENDENCE!! In todays world of post independence, the wars that are being fought are either internal (moral policing, state language issues etc) or Terrorism, period. The other warfare that is takling place is of the marketing type and brands type. You do not reaslly need that kind of inspiration for such warfare. so lets be practical here and undersstand that these heroes will always remain at a special place in our hearts and i sincerely feel that these should be in History books at all times instead of people like... I do not want to name them here at all.... :)

Thanks for the referral Sulagna :)

Sulagna tumne bujhe raakh me aag sulgaa diya hai... Kya sahi debate hai.. Maine kafi sare discussions dekhe but ye kuch alag hai... Ab jo  main kaihne jaa raha hoon ho sakta hai ki kisi ko acha naa lage but sach yahi hai ke aazaadi ki ladayi to hazaron ne ladi magar jinhone britishers ke jadon ko hila kar rakh diya wo the Saheed Bhagat singh aur unke kranti kari saathi kyunki Bhagat singh jo aag lagayi britishers nahi chahte the ke wo faile.. pre desh me aur bhagat singh paida ho jaate to angrej kuch kar nahi paate.. Aur us waqt desh ko kurbani chahiye thi jo in desh ke sapooton ne haste haste diya magar Gandhi and Nehru jaise swaarthi logo ne apane fayde ke liye inki kurbani ko vyarth kar diya... Gandhi agar chahte to unhe bacha sakte the faansi se magar unko laga ke agar ye log bach gaye to ye hero ban jayenge magar unka sochana ulta hi hua aur Bhgat singh ke saheed hote hi pure desh me achanak josh aa gaya aur sare uth khade huye angrejo ke khilaf.. Aur yaha bhi ye hi log fayda utha le gaye aur naam kama liya... Agar aa itihaas utha kar dekhe to kahi bhi bina khoon bahaye krantikari parivertan nahi huye hai... Aur nehru ji to khud pradhan mantri banane liye desh ko vibhjit karawa diye jinka saath Gandhi ji ne bhi diya...!! Aur jo is desh me gandi rajneeti chalu huyi wo sab inki hi den hai... Main Deepak se puri tarah sehmat hoon.. jo inki asaliyat jante hai.. Inko pata hai ke wo kya the... Bhagat singh agar apana swarth dekhate to sayad wo bhi lambi umar jii lete, magar unhone itani kam umar me jo desh ko jajba diya uske samne na hi Gandhi aate hai aur na hi Nehru ji.. Aur jo itihaas hum padh rahe hai wo to inke dwara hi tod marod ke batayi gayi hai.. Itihas to kuch aur hi hai.. So agar aap sachche Hindustani hai Bhagat Singh aur unke jaise Saheed purshon ko unko wo samman de jiske wo hakdaar hai.. Ahinsa thik hai magar ahinsa ki aad me swarth siddh karna galat hai... Aur aaj bhi Gandhi Nehru parivaar desh ke jajbaaton se khel rahe hai...

It's true that many good leaders couldn't get respect, what they had to get. Some freedom fighters, who were interested in freedom but they tried always to get many things from free india and they did it by hiding or suppressing other's contribution to nation, who were real leader of freedom fighting and they did not think about any fruit for SWATNTRA BHARAT. BHAGAT SINGH was also one of them real leaders, who thought only about freedom of India, not about fruit of freedom.

This is the only topic which boils my blood.History which we read today has all been manipulated by Nehru and congress which has been in existence since 60 yrs.The naked truth was burried deep in 1950s.

The two assholes who worked in close connivance-Gandhi and Nehru did it all the blunder. We indians will always remain soft and ignorant because we really never tried to know the hardcore truth.Gandhi was so jealous of true leaders like Bhagat singh,Subhash chandra Bose etc that he knew it;in order to shine over India(Literacy was 0.33% then) he has to become a Dhoti wearing hypocrite and lick balls of britishers.

India can never return the pain of loosing 75% of PUNJAB,55% of Kashmir. And who did all this-Gandhi and Nehru.DONT SAY THAT,'HAS HISTORY NOT DONE JUSTICE WITH BHAGAT SINGH";RATHER SAY THAT INDIA HAS BECOME A DEN OF SELFISH-LUXURY LOVING MORONES WHO NEVER WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED in PRE-INDEPENDENCE. My grandpa is of 96 years of age,he tell me all the details.I have read the book-HA,MAINE GANDHI KI HATYA KI"(Jealous Nehru banned that book too).FATHER OF NATION -SARDAR BHAGAT SINGH. GANDHI WAS A BASTARD BETRAYER,A HYPOCRITE WHO SLEPT WITH HIS MAIDS AND SOLD SOUL OF TRUE INDIA.WILL HISTORY DO JUSTICE WHICH HAS BEEN BLATANTLY MANIPULATED?NO ABSOLUTELY NOT

Bhagat singh has been forgotten today. He is just a history in the school textbooks. Hardly anyone remembers him on any special occasion like today and none of today's generation follows his principles or has the feeling towards our motherland like him. This feeling rose a few years back when 7 movies on Bhagat Singh were released by Bollywood followed by Amir Khan's "Rang De Basanti", but all went off when the viewers came out of the theatre. Today's generation remembers, days like Valentines day, Rose day, Chocolate day and lot of other nonsense days but don't even bother to remember the day like today-Martyrs day. Really History has done a lot of injustice with Bhagat singh which has made him a forgotten hero today.

We should understand one thing from Bhagatsingh"s Life. His reaction has been for masscare in Jalianwalahbagh. The Humanitarian aspect of the incident has really moved. aultiomately he felt that person without humanitarian values  should be punished.  Ultimately he punished and rest is history. We should look at his life as one which weighed on Humanitarian values.

Bhagat Singh finds a place not only among India’s but world’s greatest revolutionaries. His life, work, struggle and the way he kissed and embraced death bring him in league of world’s great revolutionaries such as Socrates, Bruno, Joan of Arc, Che Guevara etc. His martyrdom will continue to inspire many generations of revolutionaries to sacrifice their lives in defence of truth, justice and freedom. He was a rare thinker. The mastery he could acquire in the art and science of revolution even at a tender age of twenty three when he died is very rare. We still feel the loss that our country suffered on his untimely death. It was not for nothing that the British imperialists hanged him and the future rulers of India preferred to remain silent on his death sentence.

We are well aware of Bhagat Singh’s thoughts on topics such as socialism, revolution, India’s independence, working class movements, religion, god etc. His life and death centred around these concerns. We are generally not aware of his take on caste system as he has not written much on this. It may be due to the fact that he was a Sikh where caste based differentiation and discrimination is not as acute as among the Hindus.

Dear Sulagna & friends, the question is did history fail Bhagat Singh. Not at all ?  It is not the history but the people and rulers of this country that failed him and many more martyrs like him. Yes, I am saying so because history is just the narration and interpretation of certain events of a time by a particular set of people who have the power to do so. Here, in post independence India, the new rulers influenced the writing of history in a big way and this led to formation of certain beliefs for some time. The intelligentia also followed the ruling parties. This led to marginalisation of the honest people and the politics has come to be dominated by sycophancy and favouritism. What to say of Bhagat Singh and his zealot fraternity, even Gandhi was sent to sidelines soon after independence.  However, history does not remain silent for long - the truth can not be kept hidden. The truth always finds ways to reveal itself. The making of few films on Bhagat Singh in recent years was the key. Also, the younger generation in todays' India is growing stronger and is always eagre to seek answers about whatever is seen to be inconsistent. Thus, people are correcting their mistake and now it is for the ruling class to correct the history so that the freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh are given their due. Please keep questining till you get an answer.
