Definitely Arun, the news of pink slips given by many IT majors as well as of offer letters being recalled or postponed has taken the sheen off from IT jobs....

Arun & Brajesh,I don't agree with you guys. Still IT should be the preferred career option because more and more companies outsourcing work to India due to squeeze on their bottom line. In tougher times, it is going to grow. In fact this is golden period for Indian IT companies & IT candidates to start hard selling and picking up business. This business is going to remain for a longer duration. Half the industry experts are not using their brains in right direction to convert threats to opportunity and it is shame !!!

i think every area will have ups and downs. And IT is a key which opens your door to the technology. So as per the trend I belive the IT fame would never come down as long as human race exist(unless until we go back to the stone age).

Now only IT moved from virtual world to real world. As we are in IT industry, we are feeling the heat of economical cirisis directly.

Well, It's just a case when we don't feel much secure about our job due to recent economic issues. However, if you think about the future, there won't be a single field where you won't find involvement of IT.

Just think..

I agree with Darpan here.We are at the same stage today as the slowdown (dotcom bust) was witnessed in 2001-2003. However, it was followed by 4 to 5 good years, as people realized Indian IT could give quality services. Similarly, the next couple of years will be watershed years for the industry where more companies will look for outsourcing which will augur well with India. From the short term scenario, the US slowdown might have a negative impact. However, in mid and long terms there will be positive impact on Indian IT sector as more global companies will be opening up their doors to outsourcing.

I dont feel so we have seen year 2000 when the situation was same and everyone felt its the end of IT boom but it cam back more than expected and we saw a steep hike in the IT and ITES services. This is a phase which will make IT change a bit as we may not see and hikes appraisals for a year or so but it won't die ...

This is just a temporary thing, every industry goes through this phase & we will soon see a shift & things getting stable as IT cos are venturing into new areas/countries & that will create more opportunities...

May be, but I don't think they would fit into corporate field. Corporate workplace is very different for what they have worked. So fitting into it is very difficult.
