When it comes to a working women it is important for her strike a right balance between work and family. She has to be an excellent multitasker to achieve her career goals while keeping her family happy. Finding the right balance and maintining it is a difficult task in itself but still, have they managed to do it? Do they really have that passion to live in different universes , to prove themselves and make there presence felt? Do you think Indian women have made a mark at higher levels in the buisness industry?

I feel Indian women have grown out of traditional house wife tag. Though few in number when compared to men "Yes" Indian women have made their mark at higher level in the business industry. If women get the same support and good education as men, one day they will out grow in number. It is an accepted fact that women are capable of maintaining work-life balance. Most of the women sacrifice their career for the sake of family as it is their first priority. This aspect shouldn't be mistaken for their weakness. May be in the coming years more and more number of women be seen in the higher level in the business industry.

There are women like Indira Nooyi and Shikha Sharma (CEO of Axis bank) are a few more like Angela Chitkara (founder & CEO of U.S.-India Corridor) and S. Mitra Kalita (senior writer at the Wall Street Journal) but these few names do not mean that they are at the top and they have made it big.

There are heights to be achieved and Indian women have just begun their journey towards these heights .

I am not criticizing anyone nor I mean to hurt any emotion but the ratio of Men leading the industries to Women leading the industries is really very low and till when it does not become equal we cannot say that Indian women have made a mark or are anywhere near to making a mark at higher levels.

Every woman loves first to her family. It gives more priority to her family and home members.Though it is also same for man but man has to get some other difficulties.I like if any woman work more than man.The encourage of family, coworker response and self confidence of working woman gives top result. It is proved by Indian woman at the best level.Indian women succeeded not only high level but all level. We have to proud that Indian woman can handle any busyness with great understanding. All the fields can over take within least time space that can do only Indian woman.

Yes ! but not that many. Many time they are forced due to circumstances beyond their control to bring their career to a halt. Compared to the eighties, there are definitely more of them around and there is scope to have many more. Once they learn to balance their family life with a career plus a bit of support from the family can surely see them going places. But all this can happen only if the women themselves can sacrifice a lot and be humble at the same time. I have seen Indra Nooyi's interviews on TV and she comes across as a very humble woman despite the level that she has reached in a male dominated industry.

There is a positive trend about women occupying higher positions in private sectors and PSUs.The ratios will not give any indications but the TREND is positive and encouraging.Equality is being established all over.We may find more names in the TOP LIST in the years to come.Politics is one sphere where people talk about reservations and do nothing.

there has been a sea change between the women of yesteryear's and of to-day.Men's chauvinism is slowly realizing and recognizing that they are good in maintaining work-life balance and can deliver. It is an elevation from domestic servant to national / international servant.

Have they made a mark already? Well the answer for this is known to all. But for the question "Do they really have that passion?" The answer would be Yes, with just a nod. Not too affirmative. But there are improvements.

Great women entrepreneurs are leading the country in many ways today. But what of the common woman's position in the society?

I think the problem is with the system that we ourselves have created. To explain my view, let me generalize the debate to both men and women.

Both men and women spend 25 years of their life in education where they are under a nanny when kid, a teacher in primary, an instructor in secondary, a lecturer at 12th, a professor at college, a HOD/ Guide while in their project, a recruitment/ placement officer when getting selected and an interviewer even at the interview!

Not to mention the rules of the Indian society imposed upon them (and I am not against the culture and its implications, they're good!), an individual is always under somebody for almost quarter of his/her life.

Does this change after getting into a Job? I think not. Team Lead, Managers, Senior Managers and the list continues.

Now, may I say that an individual is always under somebody for almost the entirety of his/her life!

I agree with the idea of hierarchies and tree-structures and elders (and experienced people leading the show) to run an organization, but for the individual with a lot of inborn creative potential, I've always felt that there is something in the way of life we have chosen that blocks us from exploring our complete self! Many of us do not realize who we want to be or what we are good at (even at the age of 50-60-70).

This is more so with women- they have more rules- their very freedom of expression is under question-in many ways. And the list of people they live under in their lives include FATHER, BROTHER, HUSBAND and so on! In this scenario, how can a woman spread her delicate wings of passion to achieve her aims?

It's a hard world out there but hey, isn't this the world we live in? Do we have an option?

Women, minus the few exceptions, should get out of their comforts/barriers and soil their hands to fulfill their dreams, their passions, their desires to become a singer, a star, a CEO, a creative head, even a successful housewife!

And as men, we have the responsibility to give THAT extra nudge, that small hint of support when the matter is about women entrepreneurship!

There was such a balance in India long before! 1000s of years before the invasions when the country was filled with intellectuals whom Alexander the great feared to confront!

All the invasions for 100s of years, these cultural injections, the selfish behavior of certain people has shaped the country into something that we have to contemplate and find a CURE! Our culture places women in such high esteems

All that said, I support "YES" for woman entrepreneurship, coz that's what men today are supposed to do!

And again, revisiting the question “Have Indian women made a mark at higher level in the business industry?”

Ans: The number is less, but it’s a GREAT progress!

Many names can be listed here with Ms. Chanda Kocher,Indira Nooyi,& Shikha Sharma & they are Ms. Anu Aga of Thermax,Ms. Arnawaz Damaniya, Ms. Sulajja Motwani-Firodiya. Yse, Indian women are already made a mark @ higher level in the business industry.

But sorry to see the creator of this debate who herself is working woman professional & taking doubt for capacity of Indian woman.

Of course women are on top in every field. Look at five most powerful women in Indian politics today: Sonia, Pratibha Patil, Mayawati, Mamata Bannerjee and Jayalalithaa. Sports: Sania Mirza and Saina Nehwal. Who can forget the two living legends: Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle? Even the last frontier -- defence forces -- has opened up for women!

There are women like Jyoit Naik, President, Lijjat Papad who are working hard to employ other women and make them independent. Chanda Kocchar Executive Director ICICI Bank, Ekta Kapoor Creative Director Balaji Telefilms , Preetha Reddy Managing Director Apollo Hospitals are just a few names and there are many more, the list is endless!! So when there are so many women working at such posts and managing so beautifully there is no point in saying that Indian women have not made a mark at higher levels.

I SUPPORT YOUR VIEWS AND APART FROM THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT WOMEN ARE MULTITASKING, THEY CAN MANAGE HOUSEHOLD CHORES, OFFICE AND CHILDREN AS WELL.

BUT WOMEN NEED TO RISE LITTLE MORE IN MANY FIELDS.

I accept your views but still they have to go and rise in the ladder. However we should appreciate them for having reached the height from the male dominated society. May be they are the trend setters for other women to have the necessary inspirations.

Thanks for the referral Ms.Sujatha.

Making a mark by some 10 or 12 women in Indian business industry doesn't mean that women's condition in India has risen up. This ration was existed even Britishers ruled. The women in the rural areas of this country are still in pathetic situation. Education level of these rural women is still poor. Comaparable to men women are still lagging behind men in the Indian business industry. Indeed there is no doubt that condition of women has improved a lot as compared to older times but still they have lot more to go to make a mark on Indian business industry.

Sujatha I agree with your statement whole heartedly. Unfortunately India is a male dominated society hence the upcoming of business women are low but it is happening. it will take time but I don't feel in next 100 years the women will equate men in the industry.

I completely agree with Ms.Srivastava. A bunch of them making to the top out of a million  is definitely not representative of any great change in the state of affairs. If not a 50:50 , the day when atleast 25% of organisations have women in their top positions, then probably yes there is something to support the idea. The indian work environment is still not conducive for all women to reach those levels  even with hard work.

Charity/Clarity and Disparity begins at home. There are still households where women are expected to compromise on everything ( time,career,likes...) as a representation of their duty and loyalty towards their loved ones.( not just the home makers ,even the ivy league in the top notch companies ).A change in this ratio in the micro-home-management will definitely have an effect on the number of success stories macro-organisation management.

Women's are now taking more charge of their life and career, actively climbing the corporate ladder like never before. Not content to just sit at home and look after the kids anymore (unless that's what they choose to do) upto early 80's and 90's.And this is the fact that very less woman's made a mark at higher level in the Business industry .but now generation is changed, women's are now started looking at large corporations, investors, world Business leaders to lead the men's.
