While studying in College about 25 years back, we read about the Health Mission's goal. Among them was the target of reducing the IMR & MMR, apart from eradicating Goitre entirely from the country. Yet today it is depressing, after 25 years, that IMR & MMR are nowhere near the targets set forth then. Which tells us the state of the Health care system in the country. Should blame a govrenment that was in power only a few years or that has held the realms for a majority period since our freedom? I believe it is we the people to be blamed. We are either too dependent or too reckless to igonore our rights. We should stand up for our rights and straighten things out.

So long as we followed the dictum "Doctor's profession is a noble profession", surgeries were conducted only in extreme cases, out-patients are treated with great positive thoughts and less medicines, Doctors advised patients to take more leafy vegetables and fruits and less chemical substitutions! Now, the situation is in total disarray, Doctors only thrive when they prescribe medicines promoted by the pharma industries - this becomes a "survival mantra" for both! They have long forgotten "prevention is better than cure". Ever since the Doctors are brought under the purview of "Consumer Act", even for small illness, they send the patients to pathology labs, prescribing all sorts of tests. They know for sure these tests were really redundant, yet to protect themselves from onslaught aftermath, they do it under the garb of precaution! We keep our fingers cross, where this profession is heading!

In any business, between a service provider and a receiver, client (patient) is supreme, so let the market forces decide its efficient & equitable delivery mechanism.
