I really dont think this re-branding will help them.....everybody remembers the company and their vehicles as Hero honda and rebranding for just hero will be the most difficult job according to me for the company....because Honda is such a name which is known world over and its just that people will find it difficult to associate with a company which is cutting its ties with Honda.....

It will surely give them a new identity as that is what they are looking for. Strong re-branding measures should always help the company make a mark in the minds of the customers. They should look for associations with cricket and bollywood as they can gain sure shot mileage by attracting the youth.

Always Re branding with Existing Brand  mean is adding value to the Existing brand on the other hand the end users are getting more benefits, defientley this will give a new identity, the past experience with some other Combined  brands with their technology had given a optimum levels of satisfaction to our end users, there fore , this will give a new Identity.

Why not, fission of the HONDA tag will certainly bring in a new identity to the company with a commercial like 'DESH KI DHADKAN" once again will suffice to maintain its brand image as always.

its not about HERO group who are deciding to re branding but every Indian origin company wants Indian name as their brand. HERO tag on their 2 wheeler will help them to emerge solely as a indian brand and make him to stand aprt from HONDA brand.every year when they get the award for best two wheeler company people who are not much educated still thinks that it includes HONDA company as well in this award.it will really boost their brand among farmers of harayana, rajasthan and whole north India where their image as a brand in no.1 great step taken by HERO group. this will inspire another company called Maruti Suzuki to ponder over re branding.i am fully agree with HERO group

Had it been "Honda Hero", then this re-branding would make sense! It is natural, that the moment you utter the first word "HERO" recall of their brand would be significant, as "MARUTI Suzuki", Maruti alone will suffice!

Hi Rajvardhan, Mridula, Shrikant, Bruno. Thanks for your views. I would like to add just One point over here. Please Recall the Breakup of BAJAJ & KAWASAKI and TVS & SUZUKI..With Strong Rebranding, good designs, great engines. they made hard impact on people..Remember slogan of Bajaj pulsar "DEFINITELY MALE" so its all about how you create impact on customer's mind and put your ideas in right direction..More Views welcome...

They have hired Wolff Olins for new brand identity.

Really can't speak about the end result it may achieve as the task is to change the perception of the brand 'Hero' .

Considering their Indian stint with Tata Docomo in 2009 , I cannot comment on their ability to think and act Desi way.

Hope for the best.

I think we Indian's believe in what we see.Considering this Hero - Honda split, if hero Group Can put Confidence and Faith in people with cool marketing and branding ideas..they Can win the battle all alone.

The Honda name is a far too powerful one to shed so easily and not too forget the access to honda technology that hero would miss. Indian vehicle technology lacks in the gearbox segment and overall on the R&D front, so it would be a brave Hero to go on their own without a foreign tie-up

Re-branding really won't help Hero... everyone knows that the technology in all HH bikes was "Honda". Putting up a bike chassis and plonking parts on it does not give u a quality product.

hey paresh want to add point that u said ki spliting of BAJAJ & KAWASAKI was sucessful b,coz that company was in public mind as bajaj and not kawasaki-bajaj and i am sure after spliting people won't call it as hero group bike they will still refer it as hero honda bike....

Thank You Mridula for the referral. I fully endorse your perspective. On the contrary, Hero as a brand will regress as the brand that broke off from Honda. A similar analogy would be a Maruti and Suzuki split. Maruti would definitely be adversely impacted.

I am not the sure the indian context would be different. Leaving Honda brand may be painful for any company.
