After being left out in the cold after Wall Street banks cut down on film financing, Hollywood has now turned to India to fund its movies through private equity.

American private equity firms, banks and hedge funds, once a substantial resource for Hollywood films, have seen their coffers dry up over the past two years, which has led a Los Angeles-based financier to seek funds from India.

Indian origin producer AVT Shankardass, who has produced films like Harrison Ford-starrer 'K-19: The Widowmaker', Lisa Ray- starrer comedy 'Ball & Chain' and an Indo-Pak war story 'A Fortune Teller Told Me' has floated a Rs 500-crore (over $100 million) private equity fund in India.  The fund raised from India will make over 200 products in the next five years, including films, syndicated TV shows and pre-contractual live entertainment for casinos in Las Vegas.

The fund, Global Entertainment Partners (GEP) seeks participation from corporates and high net-worth individuals (HNIs) to produce American and international content. Here, I would like to ask users & Investors like, whether they would like to have Entertainment as part of their portfolio?  Share your views.

I think Investors will go for Entertainment as part of their portfolio, and this is something new option that investors will get something which is not regular for them, as Hollywood is the biggest industry interms of film making in the world, though India produce more number of films than anybody else, but Hollywood gives you good returns, and risk here is very less, if the story is good with good actors and director and well marketed, then the movie is a sure shot hit with huge audience that Hollywood movies get, one will get good returns for their investments, but the same level of confidence one can't be assured in India or Bollywood for that matter as  most of our movies turns out to be flops jeopardising the investments even with a big banner taking up the project.  So, this is indeed a good sign that Hollywood is turning towards India for Financing its films, it will be something new, and will take the Hollywood & Bollywood marriage in the right direction for the future which seems very bright.

I feel this sector has much potential that can be optimally utilized. Also i feel entertainment like movies, serials..  has huge potential in a country like ours. So investing in such a sector should not be a bad option when compared to other investment avenues. Also i feel this is one sector where one can make huge profits in short span of time. Therefore, i feel most of them would like to have an investment in Entertainment sector too. ..... Thank you, Manish N

Cheers!!

And ... why not ? Being (not)a High Networth Individual, we may invest in the said Co scrib if listed in India. Where ever there is a prospect, we are ready to invest in  stocks includibg "entertainment". We are concerned for 'prospect' and nothing else. Thanks for the information and keep us further updated by your postings to know the launch of IPO of the stock.

No we are not.. not right now. We are still in recovery stage and this time I do not think the same mistake will be repeated. Having tough time is one thing and going back to recession is totally different, we cannot mix them.
