The UK, US and to some extent parts of the Australian recruitment sectors are extremely mature. There is much to be learned from these competitive, fierce and largely saturated markets.  As Western companies look East to grow their business operations and balance sheets, they will often transfer their skills to the new market.

My question is this, how does the average Indian Recruitment Consultant compare to their Western counter-part when it comes to Recruitment practices either in India, or abroad (for example an Indian expat who has relocated to another country to recruit).  Whilst the Indian Consultant possess advantages in India, as they arguably know their territory and culture, better than any expat, how does that Indian Consultant compare to the expat Consultant when based in another overseas location? and how does that Indian Consultant compare with the expat Consultant, when it comes to dealing with 'Non-Indian' clients?

As more and more multi-national and international companies pile into India, how important is it for the Indian Consultant to understand the global playing field? particularly if they are dealing with an expat Hiring Manager?

Whilst i think the average Indian Consultant holds an advantage on their own turf, when they are taken outside of India, i believe their Western counter-parts may hold the edge, particularly if the Western counter-part has recruited in fierce markets such as the UK and USA.

Having lived and recruited within the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and India, i would say there is room for improvement with the average Indian Consultant.  However much comes down to how much they and their companies invest in their own development. What are your thoughts?

Indian Recruiters should look over to the ponds on the east and west to gain best practice knowledge, as these markets are extremely mature, and have a lot of skills and information to offer. Indians can then apply these to their home nation, and compete on a more level playing field.  The caveat to this argument is that Indian Recruiters working for International Consultancies, tend to have better training opportunities, which the international consultancy is able to provide from their experiences overseas. In my opinion, this is an excellent place for an Indian Recruiter to start in the industry.
