Mr. Murty, Sensex is what? It is a index, combination of 30 shares of exchange BSE. And As far as movement is concern in sensex, it is totally depend on these 30 shares. It means the weight-age of 30 shares move the sensex up and down. It means if these 30 shares are in positive & rest of thousands shares showing in negative then sensex show +ve and vice verse..... 

You are saying that sensex movement depend on many factors you are right but it doesn't mean that if the fundamentals of all 30 shares are good & due to any factor (mentioned by you) sensex Index going down and aforesaid shares are going up. It is not possible. Generally when any bad news(political/social/global) come in the market then the selling occurs in these shares and according to their weightage in Index sensex going down.....

In short, Index Stocks movement influence the sensex rather than sensex movement on these 30 shares. But you are right if you are talking about rest of shares because they have their own technical & fundamentals. It can be possible that they don't affected by sensex(30 shares) movement. But they can't make any movement in sensex also...

I agree with what vipin said. One can identify the booms and busts of the Indian stock market through SENSEX and they tend to distort the index by having an undue influence on the index movement........

Individual stocks are basically depending on the fundamentals of the company, industry and global industry. But the index is depending on many factors like political, social and global economies as well as markets.
