Over a month ago I came across an article in the daily newspaper ' Indian fan sells business to fund Dhoni dream'. I was taken aback when I read the content of the article
A cricket-crazy Indian fan(Ravindra Kumar Saini from the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh) sold his business(audio and video disc business for 15,000 rupees) to fund a dream of meeting Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The 23-year-old then stayed in the Indian captain's hometown of Ranchi in eastern India for 35 days before finally meeting Dhoni on Wednesday outside the regional airport.

Everyone has dreams and goals, some big, some small and most of us will work towards accomplishing those dreams. However, while some people will do whatever it takes to get them where they want to be, I do not believe that this young man made the right decision. To sell his small business to fund his dream of meeting Dhoni was not a great accomplishment taking into consideration he barely met him at the airport after spending 35 days in Dhoni's hometown.
Indians almost became used to the rule of Britishers when someone Dreamed of free India, The dream of Christopher Columbus took him all the way to a new land which we call America today even after facing all odds. The history of mankind is full with endless examples of the powers of dream. In fact barren eyes are hopeless until unless we fill it with dreams and gives meaning to them.
There will always be a sense of accomplishment when one realizes ones dream. life looks like meaningful and you get the strength to overcome the new challenges and this can only be fathomed by the individual who is realizing it. This guy in case must have shown the immaturity of selling his business, but we have no idea how successful it was and is this the only source earning for him. He may be having something else to support him, but the contentment that his heart and soul had achieved through this is limited to him only and no one can impinge there.
I don't claim to be right and might be sounding superficial but i guess, the guy did what he thought prudent and good to feel accomplice. I guess it's not about meeting Dhoni, it's about doing what his heartily desire was.
For any goal dream is a must.It is said that one sees dream while sleeping. But real dreams nver allow you to sleep. The dream must be realistic, practical & logical. Dreams having fantasies & impractical things never help. Such sycophancial dreams must be shunned otherwise it destroy one's carrier.
Some people really do not have the capacity to think which is important and which is not important, so for those people it does not matter about the money whether it is business or some thing more to sell which is required for full filling the dream. The people who have capacity to think which is important and which is not important should advice those people who do not have capacity.
Of Course, we need to dream ... but we can ask, as you have:
"Is this a traditional or short quickie dream or a life-changing dream ?".
A "traditional dream" is defined as "find or have a dream ... any dream, as long as, I can manifest or work on the dream-work and find or do it quickly"
whereas ..... A "life changing dream" on the other hand, begins by assessing the individual's interests, objectives, hopes, and desires for something more fulfilling and long lasting.
Instead of "just a dream" the goal must be to find a satisfying or fulfilling or life changing dream;
But again it depends upon individual whims and fancies and levels of growth and maturity ...
Everyone contributing to this debate is entitled to his or her own views. However, I still believe that a dream must have some substance and must benefit you in some way.
As a teenager I dream of going to India just to see the Taj Mahal. However, to get from my country to India would have cost me a fortune so I forgot about the dream. Fortunately for me, in 2003(many years later) I was awarded a short scholarship to India and I got my heart's desire. I was able to visit the Taj Mahal. This dream did not cost me a dime. My entire trip was funded by the government of India.
Imitation is the biggest dream one can fall prey to. Imitiating clebrities whic is a mental deviation even trying to associate with them a kind of shcizophrenia. A person should dream only things he is cabpable of achieving. One cannot delude oneself into actions that are counterproductive to ones own existence. I feel dreasms are illusiions one should avoid in life and start concentrating on meaningful ans selfulfilling activities.
Dreams are that which takes us where we want to be...Bt this is nt the dream..This is called madness according to me..If u are fan of someone than u should try to give wat is in ur capacity..Watever this man hs does its of no use..bcoz dhoni will nt cum and help him to build his business again...
So think first and dream that dream which will make you grow & improve in ur life!!!
Your dream should be aligned with the priorities of your life. Meeting dhoni or for that matter any celebrity should not be the ultimate dream for any person. i am sure that 15k could have been put to better use for his family or himself to attain more important objectives of life. I also pity the media who have the time for such articles to be printed when more important socially relevant issues go unnoticed.
This dream might be important to that guy which is not important to others, this story remindes me of "a elephant sold at Rs. 1 to a person complaints to be costly and a same elephant sold for Rs. 1 lakh is chiper for another" all matters is availablity of disposable income with one.
He has not done any thing wrong by fulfilling his dream except selling his business, instead of selling it he would have benchmark from his business to earn that sum of money and then go with his dream. Thats the reason his dream looks costly at 15k.
YES.. what to say... for the above case ... definitely dream is dream but one should not forget the realities of life for the accomplishment of dreams and yes this dream is simply waste.. insane...To fulfill Ur dream u must have desire and dedication to accomplish it practical way .. but never follow the above example of young man.
I think dream has no limitation but as for this guy's dream i have one word called "Insane". You may have noticed while match someone from the spectators runs barely in field to get attention of public or some people start worshiping their admires!!. This would be same like that!!
Its absolutely crazy. That man went off his mind or what ? Stars look good either in sky or in TV screen. There is no meaning in losing all the possessions just to see him. What did he achieve after meeting Dhoni? will Dhoni ever remember him after that meeting ? Rather he lost all his business and starting a new business is not an easy task. One should see dreams. Dreams are the first step towards success. But one should see only those dreams which will make him a success not snatch everything from him.........
Yeah in my opinion, the young guy didn't do the right thing. I respect his dream & i do understand his emotions,as myself wanna meet someone in my lifetime once.... but for accomplishing it becoming this much crazy.... not good!
Dreams are OK as long as it is not like the "Milkmaids dream". A Milkmaid once carrying a Pot of milk to the market, suddenly dreamed, I shall take this pot to the market, sell it from the money I get I will save everything and in few periods of time I shall buy one more cow and so on with more cows and from all the savings I shall buy a big house and all other paraphernalia better than others. The thoughts filled her with pride and she raised her head in elation and the milk pot fell and broke shattering her dreams.
One should dream only dreams one can achieve. Once cannot dream to be like Mike Tyson in schoos going and banging up fellow kids or dream of becoming rich without acquiring wisdom and skills to use the wealth properly.
Like our Vedas direct us, "Materialistics dreams are stressful" and those who need to avoid too much stress in life must have only less materialistic dreams.
Dreams knows no boundings and its beyong any logic. A mere glimple or touch of a star means a millions worth to a fan sometimes it is even greater than their life. This is beyond logic or calculations of other pragmatic person. But the esctatic, exhilirating and blissful moment is a lifelong treasure to a diehard fan. I stand by it.
The dream is important. But here, the word dream has meanings with vast differences. One should be clear about what he means by the word, before deciding whether it is important or not.
Dream's primary meaning is the mental images occurring while in sleep. Secondly it refers to a wild hope or fancy. Such daydreams are not referred to here. And, Dr. Abdul Kalam also does not speak about such idle thoughts. Thirdly dream means an ambition. An ambition is neither baseless nor idle. It is a conscious commitment to attain or achieve something. The absence of such dreams in our minds would indicate that we are leading a passive life. The presence of such dreams in our minds proves that we do not merely exist but do live.
Dreams are important.. For that we have to set our Goals and Actions.
The example told here could be a dream of ppl who have think Actors are God for them..! For them it is a mere piece of excitement which can be shared for years in their life.. so it became a dream for them (rather say Desire). these ppl could react crazy as life has little wonders for them.. can't be compared with educated society..! i believe..
Until unless you dream you cant achieve anything. Because Dreams are only tools which lead us to do something for ourself. Dream should be achievable, measurable, truthful etc. Every individual got his/her own dreams & they try to accomplish it.
No comparison should be made between these who talented cricketer.Sunil Gavaskar is now 62 years old while Sachin is 37 years old which means that they played the game of cricket in two different eras.No one must forget that Sunil in his time dominated...
Mr. Murthy, thanks for the invitation to participate in this debate. Firstly I must say that I am no longer making any significant contribution on this site but could not resist this topic. I do believe that everyone is entitled to his views/opinions....
Very nice article....the youths of today should read this. It so sad that children of today hardly take time to stop and think of how hard their parents work so they can have a good life. Thanks for posting.
