I agree that Branding is required in Higher Education, probably more is required in MBA/ MCA programmes.. We all know that the recruiters are judging the students from the college/ instutite/ university they have passed from, so if the same is known it helps.. In case of no branding the institute will remain unknown in this era where there are floods of institutes opening everyday...

Mr Chandan, I am sorri but i can't agree with you, branding in education is necessary for exposing your brand college globally. How many of our universities or higher education for MBA,MCA or Engineering are among Top 20 in the world??????????????? We are still lagging despite having big brand of IIT and IIMs so far as exposing our brand globally . Branding in education is really a need but it has to be done in such a way the students should not misguided by the Instution those are promoting falsely to establish their brand. For exmple IIPM which signed Saharukh Khan to promote and in the brand building process , as per my knowledge in one of my posting of artickle i have posted the details of IIPM how they are misguiding innocent students as well as their parents by giving false unbelieviable promises.

Though I would like to mention at first that many of our top leaders reached the place they are in now studying in normal schools, in the present day of cut throat world it is important to brand education. It is important to make the employer sit up and notice. One get the entry either due to reference or in the support of the certificates he holds. So it is important that one is holding a certificate issued by a reputed brand. It is another matter that after the entry one can always prove of his worth. For that matter one can also prove that he is not what his certificate tells. But what really matters is the entry...and it is decided by the papers one holds at the time of seeking a job. If you have a branded one, I feel your entry will be smooth!!

Branding is more important for education than soap or cola. The later helps only the company, but the former helps both the company and the customer (student).

hi, I also agree to the point ,Branding is enormously important in attracting international students also. In Australia for example the promotion would include the lifestyle of the country, etc and promoting Aust as a brand. In fact universities in South Australia band together to jointly promote themselves. As per Rex above the drilling down to discover core values and bring them to life will make one university more sustainable than another

I obviously think that there is a need for all colleges and universities to develop an effective brand strategy. I disagree with the author that all institutions of higher learning share the same core values. In fact, because many think this way, schools have only scratched the surface in terms of branding. Most have limited their branding efforts to logos, taglines and advertising. Engaging in a brand development process like successful brands from the corporate world allows colleges and universities to drill down deep within their organization to discover or rediscover their core values, and bring those to life life through an effective brand strategy. Colleges and universities who want to understand what they stand for create a culture that is aligned with their core values and will be more sustainable than those who do not

I believe quality of education should be given more importance than branding of the educational institute. If good students are coming out, the institute will automatically become famous. Extra promotion is not required. Many institutes like IIMs and IITs grew on the strength of the students who are passing out. If some institutes doesn't give quality education and became popular on the strength of its marketing, it won't sustain in the long run.

I think colleges should change study track for students who wants to carrier in other fields..except core courses like Engineering ,Mba & etc. Then carrier is easy for student & they will enjoy what they will do..in there field.

Every university or institute has it's own brand or style of education to impart. the image of the institue is ultimately built on the strenght of it's products, namely the students that it trains. Who would be beneficial to the society at large is someone who wants to make a change regardless of whether they come out of so called branded institutes if there are any. Forcefull branding of an educational institute is pure commercialism which then may focus more on the rhetoric than in substance. How many of us here can truthfully say that those from "branded" institutes are more successful in society than the ones from unbranded?. Each for his own!.

I dont think Branding is required, for Education , for example IIMB, dont promote thier college, they have created brand by giving proper training , coaching, placments, As universities increasingly compete globally, brand is VITAL. The brand experience for all stakeholders (parents, students, employers) requires a significant investment. This is justified by their trust in the university's brand. I would disagree that education is a generic product, but universities already differentiate through the variety of subjects offered, teaching style, academic staff, alumni, diversity and characteristics of students, pricing structures, location... They may not be able to charge more (public policy may restrict them) but they will gain more business through effective branding , I mean to say create value , branding is done automatically
