Our generating sources are enough to meet the demand. What is needed is to enrich the mentality of common people and to increase their awareness to not to waste energy or to thief energy.

But we also need more energy plants Mr. Partha....as of now India is energy hungry at the moment there is huge demand and there is very less supply of power and we need more energy resources for sure......

Though a tall order given that the perpetrators of this crime are the officials and their political masters themselves. No amount of new projects or switching to alternate energy sources would help till pilferage is checked and brought down significantly.

Mr Partha... We have to just think on that how to control the misuse of resources. Yes it is absolutely right that we should grow energy plants but we also think on that how we control the theft, as now days we have lots of scientific techniques to control the theft, we have apply that in this manner.

a) public awareness to save ... just control the wasteful -criminal negligence s by not turning off the IDLE RUNNING of appliances. (B) make provision by law: Ensure Severe punishment (i) unlawful tapping by customer (ii) Exploitation and wrong billing taking (LOOPHOLE )advantages in an organized manner (Hand in Glows) by Power Cos and Government

just a one point campaign. do not use treated water ( potable water ) for flushing toilets. use ground water and set up separate tank and pipe lines. it is not as costly as it appears. i am doing it in my house and the saving in water is phenomenal . the whole world and especially india is racing towards water scarcity. let us for a change do something before it is late.

The cost required to set up a new plant is much more compared to that of the necessary initiative required to be taken to reduce theft and loss. By reducing theft and loss we can save more revenue which can be utilised in setting up a plant in future, if required.

Energy efficiency cannot be discused without refering to a scale of 'welfare economics'. According to Paretto directive of economic efficiency and in turn energy efficiency from it is as follows. "The marginal consumption of energy for production of product A should be equivalent to that of product B". Of course for general economic efficiency there are other Paretto directives and criteria the breach of any one of the criteria drives the economy to inefficiency. So welfare is maintained and effciency achieved so when this directive is fulfilled.

Commissioning more generation plants Cannot help to make India more energy-efficient until we don't care about the fact "How we utilizing the resources we are Already have". what India need is to Proper utilization of Provided Resource of Energy. the more we utilize more we Save. Same time we should try to use Natural energy resources instead of being dependent on Human generated Sources of Energy only.!!

Energy saved is energy generated. So f there is a way to strictly monitor and wastage , there will be a good amount of savings potential upto 15 % .And also awareness to make optimum use

We need to reduce consumption of energy. But how? Can any one in this country is ready to perform simple functions with least number of gusets? Conducting a Marriage for example. Most of us feel it is once in lifr time so invite 1000 guest who in turn have to travel and waste fuel for their transport. Marriage hall electric decoration, public address system and so on. Another example is when ever we perform a festival in a temple or on the street, we waste power for decorating the gods and use public address system as if god cannot hear. We prefer to use own vehicle rather than Public transport and jam the roads and waste more fuel. We build homes with out ventilation and natural light and need to use light even during day time. it is imposible to change our people. Only way is another invador should come to this country it beat us up or kill some of us to decipline us first. I have tried educating people and the result was i was fitted in a falls case for not minding my own business. Our leaders are the first to be deciplined. They travel too much now a days.

Electricity theft and unnecessary wastage of energy are the major issues which needs to be resolved. For the same amount of work done USA needs just 20% of energy which India spends, while India spends five times much energy in doing same amount of work. If this factor is taken care of India will become energy efficient and the wastage of energy can be reduced. India needs to improve technology in such a way so that noone will escape the theft of energy. A large amount of wastage can be reduced this way.

Transmission and Distribution loss of power is estimated at 30%. We should try and bring it down to say, 10-12%. Do you think this measure will be sufficient enough to offset our energy requirement. We need to commission more power generation plants also.

Why cant we go for renewable power generation, since all of us need a clean atmosphere as well as greener earth. Our govt. should commision more power plants across the country...

I don't understand why so many people are afraid of nuclear power. I think it is mainly because of the media hype about the nuclear emergency in Japan. People, you need to understand first of all that the cooling system design in Japan's nuclear plant, considering the tectonic activity of the geographic location was far from failsafe & did not even have a backup/standby. The number of deaths in coal & gas plants are much more than that in the nuclear sector. As for unconventional technologies, let me tell you that they are at least 20 years away from large scale commercialisation -be it wind, solar or tidal. Another potential source is fuel cells. But even this will take time. Nuclear power is the ultimate & only solution to India's energy crisis. But the terms & conditions of the 123 Nuclear Bill are a far cry from "satisfactory" especially with respect to the No-Liability clause. But in no way should nuclear power be left out of the mainstream. Did the US, Russians, French or Germans shutdown their nuclear plants because of what happened in Japan ??? why not ?? The answer is simple --- There is simply no power source in the world which would give even 10% the energy density of nuclear power. The amount of energy produced per kg of Uranium-235 would require tonnes & tonnes of coal/gas/diesel. Let us not be blinded by the media. Let us develop nuclear power & overcome the energy crisis.

Yes. We need more power generating plants- Be it conventional or Non- conventional. Present consumptions & wastages can be overcome by producing more power available at disposal. Moreover, creation of more plants, does provide opportunity to Employments. Pilferage & wastage is to be reduced through proper & effective  monitoring process. Wastage includes the free consumption by Governmental organizations. Pilferage includes poorly functioning or allowing meters for measurement at the Consumers site.

Govardhan sir you are right. Need to generate more power by commissioning more power plants, but at the same time we have to consider the Natural Renewable energy sources. I mean to say we have to encourage Wind, Tidal and Solar power generations. Coal, Lignite,..., may reach an end of usage, so it is important to concentrate on these Wind, Tidal and Solar powers.

I am in total agreement with Padmaja on the need to increase the power generation and probably a lot of private player have already started rolling the ball in this direction.

At the same time I am opposed to nuclear power generation. See what happened in Japan.
