Save it if one owns or runs it. I would say save one's career instead of job. "earn genuine" experience out of a given job and move on to higher challenges. Be an example for those who seek inspiration. Any one who is serious in his/her career will be competent enough. Forcing competency out of poor souls is slavery. Remaining competent for the sake of saving jobs is also acceptable when one is financially weak and need money.

Very well said Dipika. Survival of the fittest. It seems like you have to possess the properties of 'WATER'. 1. Will take the shape of the container--right fit in 2. Will distribute pressure equally--lessening stress 3. Will flow if there is path--acquiring growth 4. Will keep less dense substances afloat--bearing responsibility 5. Is colourless & odourless--maintains integrity etc.....etc.....

Competency at a job place is one big factor but there are other factors which are beyond control of a person sometime. I would also add that increasing degree is also not bad as it gives weightage.

It is important to develop excellence in what you do and then you will be successful. In order to develop excellence, one needs to develop competency in your job. Sometimes you should develop excellence by increasing your qualifications. To a greater extent competency and to a lesser extent your additional degrees will help in your career.

We can save our jobs by simply confirming to their profile to the best of our ability, avoiding complacency and placing the interests of our organization in constant focus. Easier said than done - but that alone will keep you vitalized and an integral part of most company activity of significance. Leave to any competitor to have to achieve the high standards you have set - constantly raise the bar through your efforts and you will see the obvious results.

In todays's context reatining a job is the need of the hour.If a person is competent enough he or she can sail smooth throughout rather than to keep on pursuing some or the other course. One needs to update himself or herself with the latest technology and practices. In that one may be required to pursue some necessary course so as to confirm his or her longetivity in a particular organization. Management may be saying that if you retain for a longer tenure you may be an asset for us.

Updating your operational knowledge from time to time is required as a member of a learning organisation. Degrees and other qualifications add value to your face as long as your performance in your operational area is rated outstanding. Without performing to the standards and go on pursuing some degree has no value to it.
