I would partly say "yes" and partly "no". I had been trying to sell a detergent called "Kite" which performs exceedingly well compared to its counterparts of MNCs at its price level and a dish wash bar called "Sabena" which is much above par than the branded varieites . I had been successful in some areas while marketing with Hotels where I had an access (in most of the places I was denied the very audience) and with my Dhobi friends . Now as regards to my pointing "no " , I admit I am a failure . I had tried my products with the Indian middle class by free sampling . At that point of time its okay, but once I come out they are influenced by the big brands with all pervasive TV ads and my products vanish from their eyes and minds . Its an irony that one MNC dominates the whole Indian consumption , the very fact Henkel (though an MNC) is offering its stakes for sale having failed after trying for 20 years. If that be the case think of small players , it seems they have no right to survive . Sabash India and Sabash Indians .

For Customer focussed marketing, I would recommend a three step process. 1. Let them know u r there, and accessible. 2. Let them feel the direnes of the need. 3. Make them ask u for the product. (have yourself in their knowledge.) Mass marketing is of no use in Focussed Marketing segment.

whatever the market may be , the customer should have a clear awareness of the product because of the customer centric business market . so the customers have variety of choices for the product what they desires so selling the product directly to the customers without the prior awareness of the product is quite tough to reach
