Percentages are definitely not the foremost concern in short listing candidates..its the interpersonal skills, attitude and confidence level that counts. percentages are just a traditional way of shortlisting. all those who have scored well may have poor soft skills, no organizations needs such candidates.

All the statements in the support of "PERCENTAGE" are about short listing the CVs , they are really not interested in Skills and Quality, just wanted to reduce overhead in the process the selection.

Companies should not short list candidates on behalf of percentage in school time.

It may happen that a person din't have interest in studies at school time but at the time he enters college and meet new friends, new environment, etc. He/She may got some interest with new subjects, and for their career perspective and many more reasons.

In India we are having common subjects till 10th standard and for 12th we can choose but finaaly we opt in our graduation and post graduation.

Companies should ask for last degree percentage and check the skills of people...

See.. ITs depends on whether u r going as a fresher or experienced. Usually, the %age criteria is for freshers only when there is a mass recruitment. But for experienced, its only SKILLs which matters!

Many companies introduced the percentage criteria to sort out the candidates. But still there are so many companies which allow to attend interviews without any criteria and selects the candidate on their SKILLS. And after some experience you can join the other companies also which are now not allowing to attend the walk-ins.

The baseline of percenatge is around 58%. It is important to have percentage criteria for recruiters, however it is considerably reduced now. I believe that you should make a list of companies that can entertain you and target them.
