No doubt japanese systems of manufacturing are really a role model for excellence, Seiri Sieton, Seiso, Sitsuke, Siketsu, are basic,

even more system's like ANDON, POKA YOKE, etc can really take your organization to zero loss, and ultimately will make organization grow like anything,

no doubt we should admire the way TOYOTA is working ( or any japanese company) and are growing in every aspect like production, quality, marketting, branding, RnD, technology...

the whole concept of TPM is a masterpiece. . . (Zero loss)

SEIRI - SORTING SEITON - SET IN ORDER SEISO - SHINING SEIKETSU - STANDARDIZING SHISUKE - SELF DISCIPLINE OR SUSTAINANCE 1ST S SORTING - Segregate required, usable, reworkable and obsolete items Dispose off theunwanted items. 2nd S - SYSTEMATIZING - use labels,colour codes for easy IDENTIFICATION plan storage with accessibility 3rd S SHINING - Inspect and clean the supply lines, godowns,scrapyards, Clean up theworkplace, machines andtools Identify root causes of noise, vibration and heat build up in equipments. 4th S - STANDARDIZE - DEVELOP STANDARDS CREATE WAYS AND MEANS TO EXPOSE PROBLEMS 5TH S - SUSTAINANCE - Develop action plan for maintaining the set standards Carry 5S activities as a matter of habit and enthuse others to practise 5S. BASICALLY 5S IS THE FUDAMENTAL REQUIREMENT FOR ANY IMPROVEMENT. 5S RESULTS IN IMPROVING PRODUCTION VALUES WHILE IMPROVING THE EMPLOYEE MORALE AND SAFETY. 5S at home results in more systematic households and this is the first stepin implementation of 5S. It seems vague that how by sorting the things, arranging well, cleaning, standrdising and self discipline the productivity can increase. but it has been proved by japanese quality systems like KAIZEN etc. any industry which has implemented these 5s sincerely and honestly the company's profits have surged as they have saved a lot in raw material cost as inventories have been utilised efficiently and setting the things in order and by regular cleaning and shining time consumed have been very less in achieving the targets as required thing was made available at the time of need with no waste of time and it also improved the efficiency of machines. With time 5S become the habit of an organisation and they can cut further running costs and profits surge like anything.
