In a bid to curb high attrition level, Indian IT firms like Cognizant, TCS and Wipro are opting for inhouse social networking platforms. For an industry battling with high attrition rates of around 20-30 percent, will something like this Curb attrition for the IT industry??

I think it will have a change in the attrition levels as...many workplaces today are dead against social networking and now they are  coming up with this in-house social networking.

And now organizations like cognizant has its employees got hooked on to the company's Facebook-like platform called Cognizant 2.0, or C2. It allows them to connect with thousands others and share ideas without any intervention or mandate from the project managers.

IT biggies are realizing that to keep the new generation, they need changes beyond pure salaries. C2, which was launched around two years ago by Cognizant, has around 60,000 active users and the site records over six million page views every month.

Yes Kriti the attrition level will probably go down with the as the networking increases.

I think in todays modern time this should be done in order to reduce the attrition level. In addition once it has been found working with the other companies.

I think the binding and feeling of inclusion in the 'family' will help to some extent, atleast reduce attrition by the extent that is caused by alienation. It would help to have strong involvement by pro management employees.

Yes Kriti to some extent it may help. But a dangerous situation may arise, where they form a team of like minded colleagues and start moving out in groups. Just because elsewhere it works no guarantee that the same principle yield same result  here.

It may!

In house networking - socially or otherwise - has been around for a long time. I amnot sure that this will achieve much reduction in attrition.

The fact is a person who is changing his job is likely to keep things under wraps until it is too late to try and change his mind.

About such networking can do is to increase the cofort level and sense of belonging so that it too becomes a factor in considering whether one should change a job or not!!

Identify causes for attrition, have an one to one talk with individual or conduct exit interviews and based on inferences take necessary corrective action to reduce attrition levels.

on inhouse social network, only positive and polishing or funny insults will come up as everyone knows they are monitored. So though it is good to have it, it can contribute less than 5% in containing attrition; effectively meaning that it doesn't work.

What I feel is that, if attrition is the main concern & looking for reduction measures. A real cause analysis to be made, thoroughly, to pin point the reason for the problem. Accordingly, company needs to take corrective action.

A meal is liked, not just, because of the side-dishes alone. It may contribute a bit for its value but, that is not motivating individuals,  to go for that particular meal. So, motivation is somewhere else. In similar vein, we can say that, it is not going to reduce attrition but, may indirectly help employees work  a bit comfortably. A means to let their freedom a bit. Otherwise, it is considered as a means of the company,  trying to use their technological enhancement to enrich their goals only.
