RCC & steel are compliment to each other.

An engineer cant achieve construction exclusively based on one material.

It is true that India lacks in Steel culture, however, we are not so advanced in RCC structures too.

The composite structure is much more viable solution to achive strength, quick finishing & value for money.

When we can have curtain wall/glass facade, the only thing remains is to connect this with steel structural members rather with RCC wall or columns!

Deck can be of steel, poured with structural screed with all types of desirable finishes, however, io still prefer the core to be of RCC as it can satisfy the code of practise in many ways.

I think it all depends on how raw material prices fluctuate, often so does building design. During times of lower steel prices, more steel and less concrete is used, and vice versa. Each set of vendors and users typically maintain national industry associations that advocate the use of its materials versus the other. However, both materials are typically used together. Concrete without steel reinforcement crumbles under tensile loads. Steel on its own, without composite or reinforced concrete floors, is likewise not a preferred building method.  So, we need both of them in some or other quantity... And India as a country is not in a position to go green yet, infact we spend more or leave more carbon footprint in going green as still yet we are developing and not developed country on various counts.

Its not the people who would have, it have to be offered to them, we are not offered till yet. Any project which support steel building, their no choice with whom you want to go, first give choice, than see the result.

well when its about green building i support the steel building. Now on the other hand when i talk about the residential buildings , can i have the nicely elevated buildings, with good finishes, with good interiors.. so this could be a concern.

In this country i.e) India is very important to mention to support this answer,if we take america their construction pattern is fully with steel, when bin laden hit america we noticed that the building is not collapsed so many people were escaped,it is very difficult to demolish steel structures, but we are not following that technology due initial cost, skilled manpower etc and also some analysis& results are explaining the effect of corrosiveness due to our atomsphere that will affect heavily the steel structures i.e)Mumbai region,South chennai region etc

i support this idea. The cost apart, the  concept is languishing for lack of media exposure or knowledge.

the technical onsite teams as well as skilled labour is not available in india to carry out the things in large scales.....moreover the initial cost also makes a huge difference.

i definately support this ,i.e. in the favour of pre engineered building as this takes an very less time, less labour as well prevent us from global warming!

India is a developing Countery .Mass people are poor .Steel Structures are not familier with mass people. It requires special design & Tech Knowledge. Its cost is much .Lots of buildings with load bearing brick work & Rcc are built without St Design with help of skilled Mason.  So brick & RCC will lead for next 50 years.Where land cost is much any suitable material could be used.

There are so many causes for taking RCC building as a first choice instead of steel building in India. 1. Low construction cost. 2. Don't need skilled worker. 3. To protect us from heat and cold. But in steel building the cost will high, it need skilled worker for construction and as we know steel is a good conductor of temperature.. Therefor steel building are avoided in India...!

First of all why the argument? Leaving apart the good looks of building what else is there? If we call it green, it is wrong. Whether it is cement or steel, we destroy greenery on earth to get raw material. How can we say that it is green?

dear,i do understand..........your point, but only becoz of price factor ,we cannot consider........hence their are an imp factor time.........i.e. for building an rcc it takes comparative more time ,it ia may be an double or triple times of that......as well if we talk about price as well ,the ROI for Rcc u will get may be after so long.......but in case of steel building,it would be done so early and ROI can be earned.....and further it can be recyclable as it is steel and u will get the some money back,as in the case of rcc wont get that price after ...i.e. in future need to rebuild............so wy dont think about future profit along with the  present........

today rcc cost is low compared to steel building and the technology of steel building is not present and the required sill personal so for today rcc building will stay still it is cost effective than steel building

I have nothing against steel buildings, but I feel we are still not in a position to manage the strict supervision and precision required in their construction. There is a much better comfort level in constructing RCC frame buildings and they are much more cheaper to construct too.

its a good idea but i think we are too late to adopt this technology. So I think we are more comfortable with the RCC building.

I agree with Jyoti as of now it is not cost effective. It will take probably a decade when everybody will chang to Steel Structure.

In India the technology is yet to flourish at all segment of peoples.

Steel building can give better finish, look and structure, but India is not trained with engineers to implement the process.

Moreover, the gross cost shall be very high in terms of raw matrials. The labour cost can be cheap but the suitable equipments and training is not available yet.

The mainatainance cost shall be quite high.

We must wait another many years till our labour cost hiked in comparison to developed markets.

I think your question "in this country i.e. india why still people are going for RCC instead of steel green buildings?" doesnt have that much steam in in it. B coz most of the industrial sheds, godown & warehouses r made up of steel as superstructure.  As u said steel buildings r green, I think they r not 100% green. Bcoz process of making of steel from iron ore is much polluting. (U can visit any steel plant in Chandrapur MIDC to c the truth). Also iron ore of India is located in the area which is captured by Naxalites. To extract that iron ore we need to clear the whole jungle causing ecological imbalnce.. already this year we r facing problems like iadequate rain. Cutting of this dense jungle would merely add to the problems of India. I think we need to think on this problem & should work out a solution.
