In water retaining structures what is the best practise to make concrete joint leak proof ?

In water retaining structure joint, normally we are using pvc rubber stopper or gi sheet but after my several observation at site it is not found 100% satisfactory.

Its totaly depent on the structures requirement. The best way is to use Bonding agent during the concreting and sutable waterbars can be used. Bentonite based waterbar are among the best as it swells in contact on water.

Use well designed wc ratio and use acrylic polymer coating as adhesive in construction joints.

small particle size have more water retaining capacity for eg.clayey soil,,also at the joints a hydrophobic pollymer may be used.

try to use minimum water in concrete mixture,to avoid pore formation and use minimum particle size,i am nt aware of it but its my opinion

The best practise to use water bar, specifically centrally placed with a provision of injection system. It will be more helpful if your elaborate more on your question.

there are verious treatments pressure grouting, cutting a groove and filling it up with non shrink cementitious grout or using polysulphide sealatnt, last is using epoxy bonding agent, one or multiple treatments 'll work more details or design needed to study to determine a perfect solution.

Bentonite/butyl based “rope type” waterstops which swell in contact with water . These have been successful whenever its placed by skilled workforce. PVC Water stops also been used to try to prevent leakage in Construction joints. Basically, PVC is incompatible with concrete and hence will never bond hundred percent effectively with concrete. A thin line of delamination is always present through which water will try to leak.
