The recent Test match between India and Australia in Mohali was a intense match and a match which showed test matches are still alive and kicking at the moment, after all the spot fixing scandal that hit test cricket lately, this test series comes as a breather for the ICC.

Over the last decade and a half, matches involving India and Australia have produced several tight & needle contests, where all the matches are on a knife's edge.  Spectators, players and sponsors alike look forward to such contests and many people consider an India vs Australia series the pinnacle of Test match rivalry – more than the much hyped Ashes and the more intense India-Pakistani rivalries.

So, what do you think people are India-Australia test series better than the Ashes?? Share your views on this....

Yes, they are better than the Ashes.  It all started when the Australians came to India in 2001, Waugh looked set to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when his team was one Test up in the three-match series. But V.V.S. Laxman’s epic 281 and Harbhajan Singh’s stellar bowling performance in Kolkata mauled the Australians so badly that they were unable to recover. And from that time India-Australia series have produced some high intensity action if test cricket is concerned. be it the 2004 series where India drew the series, and then again in 2008 where the Monkey gate scandal happened and India_Australia rivalry started to look bigger than the Ashes which has a very long history behind it.

And here in between India-Pakistan matches started to loose its sheen as India and pakistan are traditional rivalries, they have been with war for us for 3 times in the past and if anything, the cost of losing was so high that India and Pakistan have played some of the most dull, boring Test series in history, being defensive to the point of not looking for victory.

I dont think the romanticism and the exoticness associated with the Ashes can ever be replicated with an india - australia series. If you were to compare test series between two countries for their intensity, then there are many which would qualify under similar breath. Why not any india - pakistan series. But there can always be only one Ashes series. There is some histroy behind it and wasnt started overnight between two test playing teams in need of naming their series interestingly.
