It is bad over dependence on imported arms and technology will lead to serious problems.

It has plus and minus side. While considering India's security related matter we must have enough weapons which act as a very good deterrent to meet any security threat from our neighbors who have been the great headache. Since India being a nuclear power we should be well equipped with all types of weapons and our enemies should not dare against us.On the other side the importing of arms and ammunition leads to increase our military budget and also making other countries to compete with us which in turn make us to compete with them. Thus there is no end for this race. Thanks for the referral Mr.Rohit Thakur.

Yes, Its a bad news for a country in the race for super power. Basic problem is lack of R & D. Govt. boasts about the economic development and GDP growth figures. When there is no allround development how can we call it as development. WE are lagging behind on many fronts. There are barely no inventions and innovations in the Independent India. We have premier institutions like IITs, IISc and we are producing great engineers and scientists but not able to provide them opportunities and exporting them to earn money elsewhere. Importing from needle to weapons from tiny nations. Its pitiable thing. Govts. should focus on.

It is a bad news because we are unable to produce at-least our requirement to meet the Internal Security. Indian Ordnance Factory has not improved its' either the production capacity or to gain more money by exporting arms to compensate our purchase. We need to concentrate the arms business lucrative & the export should not come down. Our R&D to be improved in designing & manufacturing the state-of-the art of weapons. Still, I think, US & Russia plays the top role in exports. By creating Internal Insecurity & External Encroachment, top nations are selling arms to INDIA. Beware of it.

Dayanand i will support you. If the need of the day is more arms we should manufacture the same in country without importing it. whether it required for the safety o fcountry or required for internal use such as commandos etc.

Even if require arms, why import so much. Its better to develop and manufacture in India. This will save our foreign exchange and boost domestic manufacturing. Need to involve private sector companies to develop weapons.

I agree. India should be self-reliant in this filed & it has capability to do so. Imports are means of getting kick-backs for politicians & should be restricted. They also drain a lot of foreign excahnge which is not good for the economy.

Agree with Raju, and on top and considering the three types of complexity, absolute, relative and contingent that humans produce, and considering that there is no complexity culture on the planet, we face a complexity downfall, destruction which will happen according to the internal rules of the system of violence. And the system of violence will cut down human complexity where it can hurt more: Asia, India, Muslim territories, because the stem of violence by its very own internal autopoiesis goes for goals that are appropriate to destroy complexity in large amounts. Arming India is a huge risk. But it is also clear that India is not alone in the trap of the system of violence. All its neighboring countries are too.

This means that the resources which can be used for development of the country and upliftment of the downtrodden are being diverted for unproductive purposes. We should have a deterrent capability in facing the threats from our neighbours but this is going overboard

To do what? To make available "arms" and "ammunition" from PDS shops? Jokes apart, we Indians are in great danger - all our neighbours are taking us for granted because of our very weak foreign policy. Added to that is the perceptible danger from China, who is joining hands with Pakistan. We have witnessed mass genocide in Sri Lanka to eliminate LTTE, and our fishermen are constantly facing problem from their Naval force! We may be World Champions in Cricket, we are treated so badly by our small neighbours, viz., Bangladesh, and even Nepal. Our own J&K is in a mess, so is Arunachal Pradesh!

1) indegenous arms needs heavy investment in R&D and participation of private investment. It will take time before we can make arms and ammunation that are required by Indian armed forces. Till then we have to import it for your safety. India produces 30% indeginious arms which would go upto 60% by 2025. 2) wrong. India follows minimum deterent policy. In todays world the military you have helps you in economic negotiations also. Very few people know abt this. Plus our enemy would think 100 times before attacking us. 3) Yes its men and arms that go hand in hand.

yes i support to import Good arms to safe guard our nation against internal naxals and External terrorism. When our Ordinance factories, DRDAÂ 's are not enough to produce the enough effective arms and ammunition required , we can import Good arms and Good news but not "bad news" which spread like a wild fire in our country.

Take it with a pinch. Since we have consistently failed to develop and produce our own weapon systems, we have had to import. Its a sign that we are aware of our weakness and are coping with it. It also makes us capable enough to deal with our adversaries, both external and internal.

Having regard to the prevailing threat scenrio around the globe, that's unargubly the best news for any soverign country, especially India. That however should not be on the cost of dovelopment in other factors of economy. Should be well planned & executed in consonence with other dovelopment activities.

Its a good sign. India's main threat is the chinese and they are all out on increasing their defense expenses. They are even placing missile launchers at strategic locations at the boarder. chinese can never be trusted. They have already tied up with pakistan and have entered in POK. Its just a matter of time they start to wag their tails.

It is good news in the short terms because it means that certain defense needs are getting met through import of necessary defense items. It would be bad news if in the long term India gets into habit of importing rather than developing.
