United Nations says that India can manage flood situation on its own. Offering all possible help to the Indian government in handling massive floods in its two southern states, a top United Nation official has said the country is capable of managing such crisis on its own. UN confirms that India has not asked for help so far, although the floods are extremely large. More than 250 people have died and millions have been affected due to heavy rains and flash floods that have hit Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in the past week.
Do you think that India can manage this situation its own without any help from UN and other countries?
If I were to be in shoes of Yaddyurappa, I would not have gone around with a begging bowl. I would have drafted engineers from different departments; mobilized flood affected people as also other workers to meet the required manpower resources need. I would have asked SAIL and other steel industries to release steel, partially as sponsor (to whatever extent they can afford; rest at minimal (marginal)cost). I would have asked Mamata bannegie to allow material and manpower to be transported to different affected sites. I would set up concrete block manufacturing facility (it does not require too much time to put up one) at different and suitable places. Cement could be sourced partly as sponsor and partly on minimal cost basis. The work would have started.
I would have opened a web site exclusively for this purpose. The site would contain all information about demand and supply as also progress of work.
Then the appeal for deficit shortfall would have been made and I am sure, the deficit or shortfall would not have been 16000 crore rupees. It would have easily been met. Yaddyurappa (or I ?!)would have received worldwide accolades.
There is no production problem in India. It is only mis-managing the produce, both by traders and the Government is the problem. This is what one needs to cocentrate and improve By

yes india can manage flood situation at its own.india can manage such dasasters but it needs a strong will and honesty in implmentation of relief measures . These two points honesty in implmentation and strong will power can make the way to sucess.
In recent Karnataka and AP floods mainly because of Urbanization at bank of Canals/Streams/rivers and also both the govt's have closed the other state border canal due to greedy for not keen on sharing the resources. In the other way, may be they are in scared. At least they can built the small reservoir on the edge every state border canal by mutual consent. Resultant, sustainable livelihood may be sprawled over into entire india. By

Sarika has rightly ponited out the deficiency of our focus on way of utilisation of Basic necessity food,I would like to add one more point to that we have to shun right now at the initial stage the imminent dependency on Genitically Modified Agricultural products else Our back bone(Agriculture) will Break never to stand up again.
I agree with this point. Our country can handle fooding of its citizens alone. If we stop depending on junk foods and improve our agricultural standards, we will never face food scarecity. Today, for the sake of getting city life, farmers are leaving villages which is making us loose our farming community and increasing food scarecity. If we revive our village life, we'll never face food problems. Just "Simple living High thinking" is the formulae...
Well. That is what the Prime Minister also has said. He has stated that there is enough stock of grains on hand to meet the shortfall in production caused by the floods. India has been a country dependent on the monsoons all along; and managing the food situation for one or two years should not be a problem, especialy when we have improved means of transport and communication.
This is an unwanted discussion. We were, are and will be capable of managing any natural calamity. It is the British who were incapable of managing. 50 lakh people died in Bengal due to man made famine during British Raj
Yes .we are capable of managing the crisis.Money and food is garnered and sent to these places by NGO and voluntaruily by institutions, organiations, public and pvt firms and induviduals.its compassionate unlimited.
On 12 oct Even people of drought ridden chamarajnagar district came together to make chappatis and chutney powder packed in Al packets to be sent to the affected places.Even the have nots have contributed!!
What we need at this hour is Honest and Humanitarian polititcians and officials who can lead the disaster management and see that the funds reach the affected people without being swallowed by these sharks. We find that these people take such calamities as god sent for them to rake in crores of charity funds.
Flood is natural unforeseen disaster.Weather forecast technology can also contribute in prediction of such disaster .Itcan be controlled/prevented partially upto some extend by providing subsidary channel with some river training work but it will cost if we think of all rivers. After disaster effectve rescue operation can prevent loss of life and wealth which can be done by making disaster management cell at grass route level. It is gratifying that we, Indians, can manage such disasters ourselves rather than depending on international bodies like UN. If we recall, during the deadly Tsunami, India helped Srilanka, Maldives before others came to their help. We have got enough manpower and facilities to take control of the situation.
