its we, who need to decide where to place a dumb person on a job that makes use of his other 4 senses to work and get the best out of him/her...physically challenged employees too are a part of the society and have the same kinda grey matter as we do...productivity of them cannot be questioned as long as we know how to get the best out of them just as any other employee...so my ans. is a big YES...

Specially Gifted People can do a great job especially in jobs which do not use their impaired senses. Also most of them have self respect and pride in their jobs and try to excel in them. Of course the productivity depends on how the organisation uses them. Instead of organisation trying to use them as fulfilling a social cause, companies should use give proper training to them and use them effectively. In fact I believe they can be more productive than normal people with attitude problems.

It gives immense pleasure to read some articles where we find concerns of corporate world for social welfare. In context to your experience , I would term it as extremely bad for a company like KFC but my view on the other side is that many companies like KFCs are no more directly involved, rather maximum number of outlets are run by francisees who are little concerned about the long term impact. Companies do make policies to serve in the real sense but in the interest of making large profits the franchaisees are least bothered about how and where to place them. If you agree with me, every man in this planet has got a talent of his own in a specific field. But ACADEMIC PROFESSIONALS have outlined good vs bad. My point is if one really wants to create space for special employees, one must have a clear vision for their perfect placement also.

I think today organizations have become shrude in the way they do their business, and having these special employees as a part of their CSR initiatives is a good thing, but I don't think that their productivity levels are that great. Infact the last time I had been to a KFC it took me a longer time to place my order with hearing impaired people taking the orders. And the same would be for others in other organizations as communicating becomes all the more difficult and the productivity of these special employees and others will be lost. Though organizations get these special employees for a much cheaper annual package, but interms of work I don't think
