It is a senseless mad rush as you can see from 9AM till 6 PM. Everybopdy is geared up and there is little time for any one who is not connected to their immediacy. In this rush, we do not even stop to think where it is leading us. We have to get better than what we were yesterday. As we surmise this we find that we are becoming too focussed on ourselves, with little or no time for others or values that we cherished when we were young. Or are we adapting to this change from socialism to capitalism...?? Please support with your views..

I dont think globalization in harming our culture. Its the people (we), our mindsets that are harming our culture. Having less time for someone who is in our immediacy is the effect of our constrained minds. Globalization is helping in connecting with people who are at far, but it doesn't mean staying disconnected to our near ones. It is a tool in bringing in new relationships and making the bond stronger. The time management issue is an art, nobody can say they dont have time for their loved people. Its with us to give priority to them. Many corporate's are enriching the values in their employees. China, Japan, Germany are also globalized, but have they lost their cultural essence..?? It is just bringing about an coalition between culture and development and adopting to the present day requirements without tarnishing our cultural image.

Thanks Vinoy for sharing the similar perspective. Your comment made me happy but both of us not being by ourselves. At the end of the day, this world has some kind of a chance to survive. Thanks very much indeed. (BTW, balance is everything. What would be of mathematics without equations - balances?)

Mr. Dragan! I ditto your views. The question is of finding the delicate balance between growth and preservation of culture. Blind imitation of development patterns of a foreign country for any nation is foolhardy as every nation has its own challenges and resources. No one development pattern can do justice to all parts of the world.

This civilization is facing ultimate challenge: 1. to reject global approach and halt the existence of all of us (keep in mind India is one of major contributors to the heritage of human kind) 2. or to promote globalization at the price scarifying a bit of -SELF for the sake of a common interest. I believe that the prescription should be something like: GLOBALIZATION BY PRESERVING DIVERSITIES. Sounds fine but it would be even better if it’s possible to put it into practice. I’m not sure about the answer to the question, but what I know is that what suits Finns doesn't mean it would necessarily suit the people of India. However, definitely, common ground must be defined, being maintained and protected at any price.

though Globalization is necessary, for an economy to grow, The increase of globalization surfaced many complex and controversial issues as economies and societies became more interdependent with greater frequency of interactions between one another.

Actually Indians have not become selfish, instead they have become more self centered. Earlier when there were joint families, people had time to interact with eachother and were more social, but today the concept is different, family defines only father, mother and child/children and no extended relations. They try to isolate from others to have a good living. But I am not sure if they would really have a good living if they isolate from others and live like a nuclear family. I just did a trip to Delhi and realized how true this economic growth is stunting our cultural expanse. India was never really full of one track minded people. The people were known to be generous to the point of almost being altruist. Now all that is lost and we are faced with a rat race, dod-eat-dog situation. With the globalization, India is losing its civilization... Sad...

in my opinion we are socially and culturally rich country bt from past few years we are running just for money not for development. globalisation was meant to make the world a single platform but somehow india is loosing its own identity and purity.

CULTURE- A dress code of the origin tribe-the food-the living style the origin tribe followed.

We are wearing pants/coats (in summer 42 decree)-we forgot dhotis/kurdhas/salwars

We are eating PIZZAS/BURGARS/Spring rolls

WE found the percentage of divorcees increased.

Globalization consist of lots of improvement not in the culture itself but in the way of living. that does not really shows that india is going to be selfish. .. all what matter is the ideology of our low qualified politicians. www.indiagarage.com

As Mr. Amish says, Its wrong if you are living with the thought that your cultural morals do not stand in todays life. One should instead focus on happiness within. Adapt to present changes and take your own time and conscience along. No one can change me for the love of things I cherished since childhood. If I miss them, I will go to them whenever I am in peace with myself.

taking a rather more perspective view on globalisation and its effect on our economy i would rather say that economic reforms followed by us post independence has a rather steep effect on culture.the core module of any democracy in modern day world would be capitalism.its a natural phenomenon which follows globalisation ie altering of lifestyle.so i would rather say that v have adapted to present global scenario and therby r culture has been altered.

Change is the need of the hour to stay with the world in the competetive world. We can achive a lot by being adapting to the situation rather than expecting others to follow. Well while adopting change we must keep our basics right as fundamentals have not changed only the method is changed.

Adopting the technology which is for good, but the cultural values of India is outstanding never live it. The internet is great media input, but at the same time it is affecting our culture due to vulgar websites. Certain websites should be blocked are coded, so the children won't watch it. Even when it comes to television same thing is happening. if it is coded like telephone lines ,it will help at large to save our cultural values without hurting other vision or thinking.

I would rather say that it is a lack of understanding - of the environment, of agriculture, of human values, of the past, of health and hygiene, of safety, security, & economic stability, etc.

People are more interested in entertainment rather than reading. Leave alone reading such great writings as the spiritual books of various cultures (the Upanishads, the Koran, the Bible, etc.).

We Indians are intelligent, no doubt. But exactly WHAT are we pouring our efforts into?
