We had been discussing about it lately and finally India's Supreme Court ruled on Monday that life support can be legally removed for some terminally ill patients in a ruling that will allow "passive euthanasia" for the first time. The judgment came during a hearing into the case of former nurse Aruna Shanbaug, who has been in a vegetative state in a Mumbai hospital since being raped and strangled with a chain while at work 37 years ago. It is legal in many other countries and now in our country too.. Is it the right decision??

It should  be legalized because it would help a person die a death of peace instead of suffering.. One should understand their codition and should know that enthanasia is not just killing them it is meant to give them the peace they have been craving for.. Anyways it is not the active enthansia and ths no one is actually responsible of killing anyone..

If the situation so warrants that beyond a period it is not or can not possible to live with all these agony it is acceptable for me. When the life is experiencing the extreme of difficulties which becomes not to be resolved, it is acceptable.

thanks for the referral Ms.Bindu.

There is no question of debating Apex Court's verdict. Shanbaug's case was really pathetic, the struggle she had undergone all these years. This precedence should be exercised with utmost caution in other cases!

Everyone has a right to live and die with dignity. Other factor is our economies. Not many people will be able to tell doctor to stop life support system of say their parents / spouse / children explicitely even if he is dying economically.

Shanbaug's life is suffering equal to death. We are unable to cure her,so we have no right to interfear her life. Those caring for her have served her almost 37 years. They can give their openion about her and they have appealed for her to die with dignity.

It is very personal decision & differentiate with person to person, so I think we have no right to comment anything on it. Let their relatives should decide it.
