Because the academics in TN is still not having Hindi as their one of the subjects at some levels. I means that they are out of connection with the whole nation. Now if we go to TN and wants to communicate with them it became very difficult. It doesnt mean that our academics should be in Hindi, They should be aware of the mostly used languages or atleast our national language and if English became complusary at every level even in villages, we can see the actual glorious "Global India" in the coming years. Now we are just seeing it in advertisements but try to make it in reality also.

We keep talking about how the world is shrinking and becoming a global village. Very soon the situation will happen when the most remote village may have to on occassion deal globally to get the best pricing for their products etc. Language is about the only means of communication. If right from start both sides speak different languages, how do you communicate? Globally there should be one common language. By default over the last 5 centuries or so, english has emerged to fill that role reasonably well. So go with it. If you take a step that isolates you from the majority then isolation is what you will get consequently. Dont practice isolationism and prochialism and the talk of non-acceptance. If you will go to school in hindi medium or tamil medium or marathi medium, then the size of the market that you can address and be understood will definitely be restricted to the few who can read/write or speak those local language. YES ACADEMICS MUST BE ON A COMMON LANGUAGE FORUM PARTICULARLY IN PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES. This does not mean that local language has to be thrown out. They have their place....... locally. We cherish them all the more because of that....because it is ours. Even the french, who are quite pig headed about their language understand this.

TO HAVE ACADEMICS IN ONE LANGUAGE IS A FANTASTIC IDEA.THE QUESTION THAT FOLLOWS IS WHAT IS THE LANGUAGE?IT CAN ONLY BE ENGLISH THE LANGUAGE WITH WHICH MANY REFERENCE BOOKS,RESEARCH PAPERS COULD BE ACCESSED FOR HIGHER STUDIES.NO INDIA LANGUAGE HAS THIS ADVANTAGE.

I also support Ravali... Its would really difficult for student because we have some many language in different area in India.. As we know Hindi is our national language but how many states are using Hindi for their paper work... when we go in south India they only use there mother tongue or they use English.. They even don't understand Hindi.. So keeping any language as a single language will not work for students...!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I support Ravali's view. One language system in education means one language system in total Nation, where only about 30% people speaks in Hindi and other 70% in more than 14 other official languages.

Academics is something professional that everyone learns from a standardized set of facts and in a country like india where a handful of metropolitan cities are far ahead from areas of the towns and villages in terms of quality of education it is necessary that people compete with each other irrespective of the language in which it is taught because all that matters is grasping of the concept and execution. It not necessary that all have to gain knowledge through one medium of language. Since concepts are same you can learn it in any language but after understanding any modifications, fabrications to exploit this concept requires discussion which has to be made by an international language. Like Ms Ravali commented we require a two language system, one for understanding and the other for exploitation

Only which single language? Hindi is not accapted in some part of India, though Indian Govt is trying hard to popularise Hindi. Only option is English, but to regularise English from the nursury in our villages, it needs long time.

We should have three language formulae. Local language, national language and an international language. Indians are now becoming global citizens. They are going for both employment and business in foreign countries - like yours truly. So knowing an international language will make him more employable.

I support Ravali, There are more than 800 spoken languages are in India. It will be a difficult task for next one millennium to bring a common language for India. The easiest way is to accept English as university medium and let us encourage everyones mother tough to keep our different culture.

We will end up putting all our Indian languages in museums. Germany to Japan all countries use their national language in all spheres.
