India's economy is expected to reach double digit growth by 2013, but is this growth story only for those living in cities and enjoying the benefits of globalization? Though India's economy is growing pretty well, the other sectors in the country are still lagging behind.

In spite of having a 'great' industrial growth and 'economic' growth by the economic parameters of gross domestic product, gross national product, it has 'not grown' at all in other sectors like health, education, quality of lives, nutrition, newborn, childhood and infant mortality and infectious disease prevention among others. Lately, Price rise has been another major issue for the majority of citizens in the country. In the last couple of years, prices of essential commodities have gone up alarmingly high throwing our monthly household budget out of gear. Not a single politician today actually "feels" for us, the poor? Those who are sympathetic are strategically booted out of their parties or are successfully sidelined.

Will all this problems, as a common man, do you have a gut feeling that India can be a superpower?

Growth to me suggests a better life for my kids. I thought I was giving them one till recently. But these problems are the biggest hurdle in the path of "Growth". A small percentage of our expenditure on defence would have sufficed to provide basic healthcare to all of our people. But look at our healthcare system. The government is fast withdrawing from its responsibility to provide even primary healthcare to its people free of cost or at a minimum expense. Healthcare now has become more and more privatised - a commodity affordable only for the rich or the upper middle class. The poor are not even entitled to have good health. There is no point in building a huge Army when almost half of the country's population starves. If by growth, Indian politicians mean some inane statistics, nothing can be more tragic. India will grow only when Indians, even the poorest of them, get the best of healthcare, can send their children to schools, can feed their families and can lead a comfortable life.

India Super power!! Even i didn't heard it. But we can feel it. Inflation, GDP showing us latest result of economic growth of India. But if you are talking about "AAM AADMI" then how can they feel it? They don't have much knowledge about inflation, GDP etc etc.

Yes but increasing price of commodity and goods of basic needs helps them to feel. Their fight against poverty became more crucial than prior.... It is the feelings

Superpower ???? On Paper ???? Are you joking ? Have you visited any time to rural areas ? where even education is rarely available and below 12 years children are working on wages. If India wants to be superpower then it needs to change a lot. The growth in all the respect is very much essential. We can not judge economy on the basis of very few millioniers ... or so called per person income declared by the Government or the properties created by Politicians. We need to have proper education, resources etc available to all people.

Superpower is meanigless for those who are miles away from GROWTH and PROGRESS.The  COUNTRYMEN who is still struggling for basic needs like education, safe and sufficient drinking water, complete food, shelter with healthy surroundings and many more.A common man can not even dream good schools for his kids due to high range of admissin fee, tution fee and other expenditures to get good education and edcational environment. Good edcation with appropriate infrastructure is still beyond their approach. It is very difficult for them to produce KALAM. There is still a large gape between a person on the hilltop and the other on the foothills.
