According to the recent studies, the number of PHP developers originating from India are at steady growth from last few years and are expected to rise further in the coming years. It seems many leading giants switching to open source technologies like Linux, Apache or Memcache, a major drive for PHP development is noticed globally. The old scripting language is getting massive attention from the developers around the globe, especially Indian.

Based on the statistics, still USA is ranked first in the numbers of developers registered on the website, but with the momentum it seems that Indian developers will grow at fast pace to snatch that position from the current leader.

Currently, US-based developers account for 11.83% followed closely by India with 10.47%. So what do you think guys, will open source rule the software market?

I feel the trend is moving in that space. The trend I am seeing is that there is more acceptance of open source over the past 12 months. The open source software market has seen a strong boost from the current economic crisis, which is increasingly a part of the enterprise software strategy.

Many software vendors like IBM, Sun, Dell, HP and Oracle are generating large amounts of indirect revenue from their activities with and support of Open source.

So true, yeah nowadays most of the software companies (especially middle-level companies) are looking at open-source collaborative software. No licensing issues and  the best part is that you get the intellect of people all across and contribute as well.

Generally companies are also finding the the open-source softwares are more robust and flexible to extension and modification as well.
