Government Channels are certainly doing their bit to save Indian Classical Music. In the midst of private channels, Government Channels and AIR have lost their own viewers and listeners! Music festivals are organised by the Indians abroad very regularly in Europe and the USA. It seems, quality viewers and listeners have migrated to other parts of the world from India. We Indians in India have been showing great interest to western way of life and music. Its like pendulum, oscillation is towards west, will certainly come back to India to revive our Indian Classical Music for our future generations!

The sound generated from strumming the guitar and the jazz certainly has resulted in the decline of classical music. However, fusion music (western + classical) may perhaps bring the carnatic music to life.

Might be lack of the innovative marketing of western music, classical music is not that popular. But there are organisation like Spic Macay which are working hard by organising shows of classical dances and music at universities and institutes to acquaint the young generation of our rich culture. Its ironic that what we follow is what western countries reccommend as is the case of yoga.

Losing significance may be due to singers coming up every day like mushrooms and loss of interest in it.Do we remember or even listen Baba Sehgal, Himesh Reshamia etc etc anymore

Lack of initiative from the organized urban society, indifference of the govt. to promote the rich cultural heritage of India, looking for quick return of money by the media, lack of proper appreciation, lack of adequate awards for outstanding performances and artists and lack of recognition on a scale similar to that in sports has resulted in the youngsters losing charm in our art.
