It is very unfortunate that Indian Telecommunication minister is not able to distribute the 3 G spectrum to the Indian Companies. It is not only loss of consumers in India but also Govt. is losing very huge amount in terms of taxes revenues.

Yes, certainly we are a little late considering a fact that 3G license was issued to mobile operators in Jan. '09 in China while we are still strugling for the same. China Mobile is also presently implementing 4G network on trial basis. But one good thing is that Indian telecom companies have already started enabling their network to provide 3G services. The only thing is government must complete spectrum allocation as fast as possible.

Vivek thanks for creating this interesting debate. I don't think we are lacing behind nowadays many telecom providers are coming up with good 3G schemes and people started using it and soon we can expect the emergence of 4G too in India. Already bsnl started working on it. So it will soon reach  the people.

Yes India  will be loosing on time bases, govt could have got huge amount of tax from 3G in this fiscal year, but delaying it has resulted in huge loss of revenue as well as virtual gap in technology available and implication.Govt should  now come with solid policies in applying 3G unlike 2G which resulted into lots of confusions in alocating the spectrum.

Hi vivek, I agree with you we are lacking behind in the case of technology. China is well know for it technology especially for mobile phones, so we are still not is a position to compete with them. In India even the 3G phones did't not reach the people and many are not aware of it uses. So the government should take steps to implement the 4G technology as soon as possible.

Like I had been shouting from roof top for over 10 years now,

WCDMA based 3G has many limitations to derive viable

business out of it, more so in the India context.

Theoritcally 3G appears to be good; the problem starts

when trying to make enough business volume to make it

commercially viable.

4G and other NGN (New Generation Networks) with advance

wireless networking like more refined WiFi  "End Links"

coupled with distributed high data bearer OFC backbone

is the right choice for multi-media telecom as of today.

Advancement in "Wireless" technology and

"Convergence" of systems, networks and services are going

to take the Telecom & IT scenrio forward in the coming years.

Therefore, in my view, delay in 3G is not a set back but a boon

to the Industry.

OK- Government need money - if they can make it selling out

spectrum, it is well and good. How much the buyer will get out of it

using 3G technology, is something to be seen. At least they get the

ownership of spectrum; perhaps they can sell it later for

NGN implementation for considerable profit.

We are not much backward on technological aspect.Neither it is revenue that matters always. There are some security related concern too, that is hindering the implementation of 3G in india.
