An owner is a member of an organization and it would be not possible for him to execute his innovation without a team. I believe innovative firm play an important role then follows the owner.

Innovation a Key word which Buzzes around  the corporate world .  Any Business Entity which focuses on Growth , Never mind where the Innovation coming from , until it holds good for the business . 

Innovative Owner will hold good only when the team is equally productive & sensible to catch up his ideas , thus the  idea of Innovative Firms hold good as in such a firm the Owner remains Innovative as well as the Team , thus more free flow of communication is also ensured whereas innovative owner  might fall of the expectations of his team sometimes . 

While taking the Fortune 500 List of companies , 

Apple , Google ,  Berkshire Hathaway , Johnson & Johnson , Amazon .com , P&G  etc 

We will find why Innovative Firm  hold touch good over Innovative Owners , Present Day Business is all About TEAM WORK .

Innovation is key to technology adoption and creation and to explaining the vast differences in productivity across and within countries. A study conducted by the Deutsche Post Foundation has found a relationship between innovative firms and innovative owners. The study covered 2800 firms in Sri Lanka and the focus of the study was on innovative firms and innovative owners (2009).

Thus,  firm size is found to have a stronger positive effect, and competition a stronger negative effect, on process and organizational innovations than on product innovations. Owner ability, personality traits, and ethnicity are found to have a significant and substantial impact on the likelihood of a firm innovating, confirming the importance of the entrepreneur in the innovation process.

Thus, innovative firms and innovative owners are closely coupled and one without the other does not lead to significant improvements. However, what is more important is that if there is more competition, the incentive for undertaking innovation is reduced........

Amit You have said where wave length of all the employees matches including that of Owner those companies go ahead without any problems and meet all the deadlines.

its difficult to say. owner as well as organisation both should innovative. only owner innovative may not work. owner should promote innovation and the whole organisation should be innovative.

Owners are hardly innovative... they just know where to put in venture capital!

Innovation comes from the team, the leader who has the convincing skill. for the firm to sustain, it is the management and its vision and mission and its ability to fight bad times, prosper in good times and flexibly change with time.

What matters is an Innovative Management.

Owners are important to the extent that they are part of the management team.

This age belongs to collective efforts, team work etc. Although genius inventors are still phenomena happening sporadically, until put to an organised process structure of the likes of a firm, the innovation might not see the fruits ultimately.
