Internet technology drives economic growth and enables poor countries to develop at a faster pace than rich nations did, Cisco Chief Executive John Chambers, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and other business leaders said on Thursday. Chambers told former US President Bill Clinton's philanthropic summit in New York that an ability to collaborate on global development using Internet communication was one of the most fundamental advances since the Industrial Revolution.

What do you think people, Can Internet speed up the development process in Poor nations??

Yes it can....It suddenly allows us to change people's lives at tremendous speed, if you watch the speed of change that is now occurring its almost what used to occur in 10 years can occur in one. Social networking sites allowed one person's view or advice to become global and noted that the technology was so simple and inexpensive "that anyone can access it".

Indeed it will speed up development of any nation by helping in improving the intellectual quotient of the populace. And once the intellect improves, other things would fall in place as economic progress would pick up and all round development would get the boost.

I fully agree with you Mr. Malladi. The very fact that time and distance are saved a lot ,that itself is noticeable achievement in any activity.

I think I agree with Shrikant on this. Nothing is as plain as it appears. There's always some evil lurking somewhere for practitioners of Capitalism. It's just unabashed greed, and the power to cheat, corrupt and exploit.

Yes Malladi the Internet is effective in time reduction there by better utility of money, which is faster. Any thing fast helps improve performance.

so the underdeveloped nations will be benefited.

Yes Amrita I agree with you. Yes it is one of the tools but probably will not help development to a great extent. Otherwise all the countries would have grown at the speed we have grown. But it is not a global phenomena.

On the contrary the otherwise developed  nations would have gone further ahead but countries like Greece is in doldrums. The most of the countries in african continents has not developed.

YES!

Internet itself describes connectivity of different components/objects.  If people get networked, they will be more informed.  Informed person can act wisely and advancement can happen. And as the information is spread at good speed this will again help to take timely decisions.

What matters most is the affordable services and availability of infrastructure.

Growth depends upon attitude. Technology may help you to some extend but other things are more important than technology alone.

But there should be infrastructure for Internet to be accesible to most percentage of the population for the nation to grow, when there is no infrastructure at all in the first place expecting internet to change or speed up the development process will be some thing far fetched.  First we need education for all...for internet to take over gradually....
