every co shud make written test compulsory, u cant judge someone programming skills in just oral interview, if someone is strong and good, will not be talking against it

checking apptitude is no use, if a guy is BE OR BTECH OR MBA, he might hv cleared his apptitude first, PI is the best way to judge talent becoz he didnt. hv to work practically with apptitudes, his confidence,communication , dedication will work .

However much skilled the interviewer might be, there is always an element of subjectivity/human element creeping into the PI process. There is a high likelihood that the interviewer gets carried away by the appearance, habits etc. of the candidate and take a wrong decision. Halo effect, Horn effect, Order error etc. are the terms used in HR for such judgement errors. Having a written test would act as a complement to the PI and would strengthen the decision making process. It also helps in weeding out candidates who are not up to the mark.

I agreed with your points. Written test will help out employers to select the most suitable candidates for the job. It will save his time as well as it will also help him to judge the knowldege of the person.

Today industry is looking for strategy and attitude. Every MNC want to boost their revenues very quickly. In order to achieve their targets, will power of a candidate can be known only after he/she is exposed to the problems. Written-tests are very old formats. Instead GD+PI should be considered.

direct personal interview should be initial stage 2 judge a candidate then the candidates should be shortlisted for written test

Direct PI can help in judging the candidates knowledge, etc. Specific written test should be for judging the candidate suitability for very specific job requirement in which the candidate has to write/type something (such as designing, writing ad slogans, editing, translating, correcting technical text, checking accounts).

Screening can be done through telephonic interview or profile screening. Only for the sake of screening written test is a wrong practice. Personal Interview is enough.

Direct personal interview is better process of selection. It can require written test, computer test, voice over english (BPO sec.) only as per job profile need. Otherwise Personal interview is good method, it can judge many thing from personal interview.
It can be happen that a candidate is fail in written test but overall he is good. So, he loose from the written test however he is good. You can directly ask each and every type question, it can also possible personal interview can conduct 2 or 3 round.... Direct personal interview is good for selection process as compared to written test..
