Captive solution is already a proven model for cost reduction without compromising on quality and delivery. A good execution of a Captive is far better than any other available outsourcing model. Increase of Captives in India from 300 to 700 plus in last three years is a testimony of the same.

This investment will help in the 'controlling of costs' side of the Balance Sheet, to the extent of 30-40% of the IT budget. However more emphasis has to be given by the company on the Sales, and demand generation activities. This can mean newer products, newer markets, etc.

Agree with the crux of the argument of Alok; the business case is there, though teething troubles could sometimes put off people with high expectations of a 'smooth landing'.

The organizations that use their captive centers not just for engineering but also for support functions such as marketing, finance and human resources see a larger cost savings.

Most technology organizations spend around 50% to 60% on sales and administration. Even if only a part of this entire activity is undertaken from the India center, it results in significant cost savings to the organization.

Investment in a basket of more debt insutruments and less equities of captive companies is prudent rather confining to one company which is more risk prone.

No,However captive company in India really one of the big sources to come out from the recession which headed globally, but Some types of risk that the captive company might insure against could result in larger expenses than the parent company can afford, and can lead to bankruptcy but Larger private companies are less likely to be bankrupted by a single event because of a diversified pool of risk.and hence US,UK are more dependent on Parent companies that weigh the personnel cost of a captive company.
