The Indian Premier League (IPL) looks set for a drastic change in format next season, and with 10 teams instead of the current eight, continuing with the current format would have meant playing 94 matches instead of the current 60, a prospect that was giving organisers the jitters, given the fact that the tournament would still have to be restricted to about seven weeks.

The Proposed formats:

1. The 10 teams will be split into two groups, each of which will follow the current home-and-away round-robin system. The top three teams from each group will then advance to a Super Six stage. Only 4 matches for those who don't qualify.

2. To placate those who don't qualify and hence play less games, the BCCI might borrow an idea from the NBA in the US: Divide 10 teams into two groups, with each team playing the other four in its group twice - once at home and once away - and also playing each team from the other group once. Ensures at least 13 matches for all teams.

So, what do you think guys, will it be good for IPL by changing its format?? Share your views on this.

It will be hard for the fans and the marketers who have invested heavily in this IPL format and if suddenly the format is changed it might take of that interest levels in the tournament. And IPL is something marketers will be waiting to happen every year where ads are placed only when IPL is happening, as there is high viewership at this time and people really love their cricket and that loyalty is creeping in and different forms of fan based marketing has happened....and now if they are thinking of changing the format then they might tend to loose many viewers and money which was coming through ads....it will have its affect for sure..

Yes The change in format is the need of time. It helps both players and organisers to complete in reasonable time

I am in complete agreement with Yash on this. The interest of the franchisee will also go down so every thing may change except the game, the way it was.
