With the IPL and the World Cup coming....marketers are gearing up for the battle to win their customers. The fight will get tensed and crowded with customers left will many options.

IPL will continue to remain the largest property on Indian television. Take the World Cup — across 45 days there will be a maximum 9 India games, i.e. assuming India qualifies for the Finals, whereas on IPL there is a match everyday on prime time and 2 games on the weekend which drives reach for client on a daily basis and that's why he pays premium on IPL.

For example, from Feb 18 till mid-March there are only 6 India games in a month, the remaining 40 games are non-India where the rating will be below 1 rating point. For any impactful communication you need to increase your reach everyday.

It will be the world cup because of its sheer spread and interest amongst the cricket playing nations. IPl is only an india specific and utmost a sub-continent specific game but the world cup is bigger.

I agree that more focus should be given to other games like tennis, football, Squash, etc. But that not means that cricket should be banned. India has the best team in the world of cricket. A lot of people in this world know about India because of cricket. So other games should also be promoted, but cricket should never be demoted.
