i do not think it shows incompetency as a person might have a genuine reason for gap like preparing for IIT,etc. Rather it shows the person is hardworking, patient and personality ready to face challenges

In technical job knowledge matters alot,if the person is talented knowledgable and command over his/her work then such gaps really dont matter.

Though this does not make him incompetent as a techie , a careful examination is needed on this exact three year gap.Check whether he is covering up a failure in graduation or some other course.

A gap may be for creating a better foundation for the future. In an avg life of 60-65 yrs, a 3 year gap wouldn't really matter if the person re-created himself in that period and took a successful plunge in career thereafter.

The 3 years gap has nothing to do with the competent level which is always with the candidates. There may be some personal reasons for the gap as the person may not be able to continue his studies or other things.

Gap in Education does not reflect one's competency strength.. It should not be considered as one of the criteria during recruitment.. Question him and check his competency.. We shld never decide on his education Gap..

this is not true,i think IT company should not have such type of criteria as they select the student through 3 to 4 round and if such type of candidate shows their talent they should allow them.

The primary criteria is not whether the person has a gap but his/her ability for the job. They can always learn

i agree with this point. we cannot jugde gap w.r.t incompetency... 3 years gap may mean anything.. may be a person is seriously ill and couldnt continue his study in order to recover full.. Many students are top brilliant but would suffer of poor finance condition... This can be treated as a situational aspect rather than terming it as incompetence.
