This is the question which every one will be wondering after seeing the huge success of "Avatar" 3D movie which is touted to become the biggest ever hit in the history of cinema, though it is ranked 2nd after Titanic which was directed by the same director who directed Avatar James Cameron, but still people are going crazy over the technology that was used in this movie and 3D made it people go to theatres than watch it on their TV or PC's, which often happens with pirated cd's and dvd's.  And now we see many are taking 3D to ensure success and curb piracy.

But we have to see how the adoption of 3D takes place, and it gave a feeling that normal movies would just be out of fashion, but then 3 Idiots just showed the opposite of it, that even normal looking cinema's with good script does well as 3 Idiots is the Highest money maker for bollywood, easily crossing 300 crores in span of 20 days. So, what do you think people Is 3D movie going to change the film industry? I mean will we see transition of film industry towards 3D more? share your views.

I think yes, anything new people go for it, and in case of 3D which enhances the experience of a moviegoer will surely find wide acceptance all over, and clear example is of Avatar, though not having a great story but with technological advancements is now sitting pretty on $1.3 billion worldwide collection, so yes we can see this transition happening more in Hollywood, but in bollywood still we need subjects which has appeal to international audience and till then even if someone spends his fortune it will not workout.

Well, i agree with Mr. Bhave. It can not change the trend unless you have the movie which has an element that needs to be experienced in 3D. every movie coming into 3D will just loose audience's interest over time.

Apart from this, i am very unhappy with the quality of 3D glasses and projection/projectors in India. either the prjector handler doesnt know how to set it up precisely or the projector itself is a bad quality projectors because of which the actual 3D experience which was supposed to be experienced is more of a discomfort than entertainment.

and i am not talking about A particular theater but almost all of them. i have been to Fame, INOX, PVR & Fun Republic (all in Mumbai). just absolutely poor quality of 3D glasses. they are very uncomfortable, they poke on your nose (on the resting part of the glasses) the mold is not finished properly which makes it uncomfortable to wear it longer. and most importantly, the glass(plastic paper) is so not well aligned or balanced that you can actually feel the image ghosting or a second image next to the original image. now i tried 3 different theatres and 3 different glasses in each theater but still couldnt find the right one which will help better in terms of visual experience and comfort.

i have tried the glasses which you get outside to be purchased and they are fantastic. they feel good, they give you a good visual experience as well. i do understand that they are expensive and not viable for a theater to keep those in mass but than figure out a marketing deal with these companies in a way that they get promotion and the viewers can understand the difference between the regular 100 rs 3D glasses and these expensive 3D glasses. because if you want your viewers to be able to enjoy the movie and have that amazing 3D experience, than they should come up with ideas to make the viewers feel good about the experience and in my opinion and experience, i was very upset. i have seen Bolt, Journey to the Centre of the World, Avatar etc... and each time i found it an unpleasant experience and i always thought i would rather see the same movie in 2D and i will enjoy it better.

Why? because 1. i dont wanna have this raw plastic on my face and feel uncomfortable while watching the movie.  2. i dont wanna keep adjusting the glasses to be able to see and feel the 3D effects clearly.   3. i dont wanna lose my interest in 3D movies because of bad quality glasses.

and one more thing, i did think that the problem could be bad handling of the projector... but well not in all theaters right? :)

Apart form this, i think Chhota Chetan was an amazing work but in all these new 3D movies, personally, i didnt find enough 3D material for it to be shot in 3D. it didnt feel how it felt in Chhota Chetan where everything was coming on to you and everything was at your arms reach (as i felt so.) in these movies, i found everything to be quite far from the audience and there were only few layers where you feel the 3D effect, apart from that they were very subtle. which is one of my another point which i wanna bring to the notice of 3D Movie makers.

Every year there are atleast 3 3D movies on the release, in the US. We get to see none of them. But Avatar is the biggest 3D movie in the history. Its made more money than any other movie and that too in the 3D format. The biggest difference was the mind set. People often see 3D movies for it effects, getting it tagged as a children movie. This was the first movie that made its way into the general audience.

Avatar greatly dropped the cost of projecting a 3D movies with its new 3 disk projection system. The older 3D movies needed brighter screens(often made from silver) to compensate for the brightness. Avatar also brought new equipments to shoot a 3D movies. All this means 3D is going to become more common. Its definitely marking of the beginning a new phase in the movie Industry. Now making and projecting 3D movies are far cheaper and simpler than it was. The result every one wants a pie in the sky. More 3D movies. There will definitely be some Bollywood 3D movies 2-3 years from now.

This year a new standard has been set for 3D broadcasting, With this channels will be able to broadcast 3D movies. Thanks to this very basic change a whole new array of consumer goods are getting 3D equipped. 3D TV's already out and DVD and Blue Ray players are expected to be out in less than a year. Rest guaranteed Avatar will be available in 3D DVD and Blue Ray. Starting this year many games are expected to be released in 3D to enhance the experience. There is already an NVIDIA card that can convert most games to 3D, by wearing a glass.

There are some companies working on technologies that will remove the glasses off the 3D. This will take a while, until 3D will find its way everywhere. But now there is a new standard for 3D movies and so, if the movies increase then the glass quality will improve. It will stop irritating us so much.

Yes there are chances. As Shyam stated why can't AVATAR be a first step for this kind of movies. The film industry is growing rapidly especially in technology. So anything may happen no one can predict the future.

Success of a movie mainly based on the story of the movie. If a movie filmed with a good story and script it may be hit in the cinema. and also we have to consider the cost of making  a 3D movie. So i dont think 3D is the next movers in the movie sector..

Chhota Chetan 3D was a marvel of Indian cinema in 3D films. It was a classic hit! And this was decades ago...

3D cinema is specialty cinema and the subject has to have the element of being shown as 3D for the real time effect and for the audiences to enjoy the experience. Also, these are very expensive techniques and are not easily attainable. The experts are different from your regular graphic experts. The time taken for making such films is huge. So, looking at the investment and the time taken for release, its very difficult for every second film to be made on the 3D format!!

Thanks for the referra Himanshu :)

I Don't think 3-d Movies will be popular,as earlier the film called Appu was succesful,

but somehow it did not became a trend stter for future movies to come. Avatar would have been hit even without 3-d because of James Cameroon

There is a difference between dictatorship and democracy. Whatever it might be , the system is bad but no we are not under a rule and no one is ordering us. They are corrupt but they are not dictators...
These are two different issues. There is no point in mixing them up. They might not be willing to remove corruption but the case of temple treasure has nothing to with it.
Yes there is no magic wand but does that mean we should stop working? We need to do something and even small steps will help in long run. It might take long but our aim should be to end it. Thank you Sir for a nice post.
