Only as far as Drafting is concerned Auto CAD is the best solution for that ... but for 3D modeling rest of many software's are far better...Like the best one is Uni-graphics NX 6

Hi, Dilip, AUTOCAD is mostley used for making 2D drawings & some useres use 3D also, but for making fast & accurate 3D & analaysing u need some other software like:- CATIA V5, solidworks, Solidedge etc.

Hi All, It all depend on the need and your experience. All the softwares have there own plus and minuses. If your project is purely 2D autocad is good enough but if the project is 3D than there are number of softwares available in market like. Its your choise which software you feel more comfortable and confident.

For Me, AutoCAD is the best driving tool for all type of presentations. I also feel it to be the best drafting software available in the market...

I agree with Dilip here, and according to me in general, the survey revealed that the most commonly used tools for 2D drafting and 3D modeling are not the same tools as those considered "most effective" by practitioners who do 3D modeling in schematic design, it is important for energy tool developers because sustainability-related issues must be addressed by designers at early as possible. "Greening" cannot be applied during the construction documents phase, where most mainstream CAD is performed. There are others like MiniCAD, Vector works and others but AUTO CAD is the best.

Autocad is a good software but its not efficient enough and even more time consuming when compared with solid works or any such modern soft. Not only does solid works requires a lower amount of knowledge of commands required but also has functions to determine whether mass from a certain part of a component can be reduced while maintaining its strength. Softwares with simple drag and drop fuctionality seem to be more efficient to work around.

AutoCAD is the most proliferate 2D drafting software in the Engineering world, but the one which beats it hands down is Bentley's Microstation. In the Plant engineering industry, the 3D modelling tools are the most important tools, where PDS from Integraph is the most popular software. The CAD engine of PDS is Microstation, so it becomes a natural 2D drafting choice for Projects using PDS.
