Not ... exactly if HR is not blind.

One may avail of a "Sabatical" from present employment to earn a degree or so. May s/ he not return back to his earstwhile job or a new job ? Sabatical is popular in Professionals in many countries.

Nothing is an irreversible sin!

However there is a price to pay unless you have a good reason for the break.

No, because of reasons beyond control. One should not be lazy and greedy or over ambitious.

The sin is not to be able to tell a coherent story about WHY you were jobless. If you were in a coma in a hospital - tell it. If you decided to care for your dying mother - tell it. Unexplained periods in your resume is always interesting to the people who hire you. Remember to make a good story with good reasons for the jobless periods. Many leaderships qualities cannot be trained inside a job period, but in the jobless periods you can train in leadership skills and teamwork.

THANK YOU JANAKI.

WHILE INTERVIEWING A JOBLESS CANDIDATE TH INTERVIEWER GETS CERTAIN UNFOUNDED APPREHENSIONS ABOUT THE CANDIDATE,WHETHER LAST EMPLOYER WOULD HAVE ASKED HIM TO PUT DOWN HIS PAPERS FOR NON PERFORMANCE OR FOR SOME FRAUDULENT ACTIVITIES ETC.SO THE CANDIDATE GETS A LOW PRIORITY AMONG OTHERS WHO ARE WITH A JOB.WHEN THE CANDIDATE IS QUALIFIED & EXPERIENCED HE WILL NATURALLY GET SELECTED.IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE CAPABILITIES TO CONVINCE THE PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER.LOOKING AT THE OTHER SIDE A SURVEY SAYS THE No 1 PROBLEM ANY MALE WILL FIND TO COPE UP IS THE LOSS OF HIS WIFE (WE FIND MORE WIDOWS THAN WIDOWERS)AND THE No 2 IS LOSS OF HIS JOB.MIND HAS TO BE BALANCED TO ACCEPT REALITY OR WHAT COME IN OUR WAY.

Earlier it was, but nowadays people understand if there is a break in between. Just your negotiation power in initial discussions in job interviews goes down, but you can always build it up as time passes by.

Hello Sujit, Not at all. You can study or try to start your own business and think of somethingelse. No need to worry. It is better to think positive and do some aciviity. It will help you to move around in society with respect. Its depends on individual.

Not at all. Nothing is irreversible , except death ! Even if it takes years for you to get re-employed , after a break , you may be able to go up the corporate ladder very rapidly , thereafter.

In life , you can fall down any number of times ; failure is only when you refuse to get up again , exactly as in the boxing ring. As long as you get up before the count , you are still in with a chance of winning.

Robert Bruce's saying is still valid , hundreds of years later.

Joblessness occurs, either due to corporate retrenchment (compulsion of company) or individual's decision (voluntary decision). In the first case, individual is bit bewildered(rather frustrated) due to many things such as family prop-up, economical crunch, social circumstances where he lives. We heard, guys shot oneself after loosing jobs (USA) etc. However, given an adequate time to individual before retrenchment . help him make-do in living & be ready to face it.

In the second case, its voluntary, so I believe one is ready to face its consequences.

However, the case may be. Individual should not loose sight of his profession & need to continuously prepare for the nacent introduction/advancement etc during that period & be ready to face new challenge,if any comes, without fear.

Jobs are only one kind of employment. If your are doing something useful for your next job it is fantastic that your have concentrated on doing something useful.

Work life is only one sphere among others if you are a whole human being. Self employed people are often jobless.

I guess Mahatma Ghandi was jobless in large parts of his life. But I guess he was doing many useful things. Being a good parent or neighbor is also useful. BUt you have to tell the next employer, why it was useful for him or her that you did somethingas unexpected as being jobless for a year

Not it not. but its a question mark and the person need a proper explanation for the gap of one year. many companies filter such candidates but its wrong, they should be provided equal opportunities. it can be happened with everyone in today's scenarios.

No it's not a sin and it's definitely not irreversible. Unfortunately it does not work that way in the corporate world or in the case of majority of salaried workers. You have a valid reason for your decision and the employer have theirs. It's like relating to frequent job changes as being ambitious to oneself Vs unreliable to employers.

Gap in career need not be a sin as it is now becoming commonplace in developped world including India. However  one should be positive about it and should try to use the gap for some learning new skill or other gainful activity. It is never irreversible. What matters is marketable contemporary skill. Howver, sometimes unwanted job loss creates emotional turbulance, which takes time to overcome.

No i don't think so because i myself took break for about 1year and again i joined in a job but one thing is sure you will not be given higher post. And i also realized that once you take gap you might not update technological changes. If you keep track of Tech changes then taking gap in your career is not at all a big thing and it is not a irreversible sin.

I also believe that being jobless for a specific time period would not  be consider as sin if you have make the recruiters understand your reasons for the gap in between. I have known quite a number of persons who had reasons for not been unemployed for sometime yet they were fortunate enough to find another jobs with time.

Your pursuance and determination will be able to get you a job. Don't ever lose hope and determination. Just keep track of knowledge and let the employers know that you  in way lack knowledge required for the job and soon you will be able to find a good job for yourself..... Good Luck!!!

No, a gap between jobs is not a constraint for getting the next job, for as long as one has a valid reason for being idle and would be able to explain it the prospective employers.

Actually no, but companies use it as a reason for filtering people. Actually the reason being within a year many technological changes could have taken place and you may be out of date. So updating will help you to get a better job.......

All the best :)

Yes. That too when you have reached a sunnit after hard work and the vision is not shared by the management. It hurts on both ways that your vision is lost and feel humiliated as a similar position may nt come by that soon.

Janaki first says no, then he says the companies filter based on the continuity of the employment this filteration is yes to the argument, Hence this criteria should get "CHANGE" job vacancies should be first filled with the people who are having experience and are in need (like peopel who lost their jobs due to recession) first and then the next, we should bring this mature change in our mindset, every one are employed as employees, even CEO himself is an employee

So this change of revolution has to come from the recruiters the HR, more over the remedy is the organizations should have some percentage of reserves to the employees may be for cutoff period of year or so, when there is a recession these reserves should help the management to overcome the over heads and continue their business with the current strength and explain the hour of situation so that employees canupgrade themseleves in between and have time to build their carrier accordingly.
