Being a bioinformatics student i myself am facing problems regarding my carrer growth,but as its an emerging field there are oppourtunities..but yes a bit less..but the scenarion will definetly change.In the reserach field bioinformatics will definetly strenghthen its roots.

If you Ask me i don't think so as there are very less companies who take Students who are from Bioinformatics background as there is very less scope for that in India, but then if you can get in as intern or under a traineeship then with that experience you can gain some advantage, but there is lot more scope if  you do normal Microbiology,Biotechnology and if one has masters degree in this, there is a better chance of getting jobs in this field than any other courses.

If you finish the Phd in this field there are rain of carrier opportunities in Pharmasuitical companies and one can go abroad to do Post Doctrals as well.

thatz really right, but why u forgot those days when bioitechnology was nothing and was emerging and now u can see the change, same goes with bioinformatics, and starting early always pays.

Bioinformatics is only introduced india.Actually there is nothing happening with real research work.People beleive to develop software is bioinformatics. There are not a single student who uses tools and come up with new solution like better vaccine and drug development.Only software is developed which is already available. One only know how to publish papper and it is all done with making story. So,in india still there is no scope for bioinformatician. It is better to do computer science and develop software better than a bioinformatician.

   Bioinformatics will have only scope in india when we will have our own highthroughput sequencing centre and our genome of interest will be sequenced.From only here a real research will start we dont have to dependent on other data which we dont know wether its correct.

i support miss bindu's words ..... less company .....and there are many loop holes in the plannning tha course in india that u get a hard deal if willing for phd in tha field
